[00:00:00] viewer discretion is advised. Your fave will be criticized.

[00:00:03] That's good. That's Jan. Welcome to CCTV's at non-staff cop shows.

[00:00:08] And we are discussing Girls Loud's second album, What Will the Dabers Say?

[00:00:15] Here on CCTV, Chris and I have the inside scoop with our extensive experience performing

[00:00:20] on stage and working at record labels. We'm very excited to see what they have for us for this deluxe version, because I'm curious what Zenimini have like in the vault. But oh yeah, right. Yeah. But yeah, Sound of the Underground was definitely a mixed album. So I'm very excited to hear your thoughts on this one.

[00:01:41] All right. So what will the neighbor being a huge success. And it eventually reached platinum status in the UK. Yeah.

[00:03:01] And of course, Girl All Out then continued to release many more albums.

[00:03:04] So we will now go on to Iraq by drag and discuss the production of vocals And with this one, they had a full makeover, like both stylistically and sonically too. Like I think their whole team was kind of switched around. So it really was kind of a brand new relaunch. So even looking at all the teaser photos and stuff, like it's super exciting. Like they have the director chairs with their names on them. We got some new hair colors.

[00:04:22] And even just the styling was very, very different

[00:04:24] because it all was definitely a bit drab

[00:04:27] for the final version of the song. So that's very different from most songwriters, but that's now the Zenimania thing. And the show is a great example of that, because you get two courses, completely different verses, you get kind of a weird structure as well. Absolutely, yeah. And it's so good, it's so good.

[00:05:41] And also, I don't know, the girls

[00:05:43] were getting also a little bit older,

[00:05:44] because they were kind of doing

[00:05:45] the rebellious teenager thing, the sophomore slope. And yeah, it's like, essentially this is like their first official, like who we are album. So it's not like the soft horse love, but it also does a sub sophomore album.

[00:07:03] But technically it is.

[00:07:04] But you know, in terms of like finding your own voice is their first album.

[00:07:08] And this is a standard. This is my moral. This is like boundary You know if you want to be a part of this Yeah, but also there's a little bit of reflection like this should have known should have cared so how on the kitchen You know, it's like I realize my past relationship I do it all supposed to be doing or do what a partner was expecting from a lover the next my goal fourth

[00:08:20] I'm gonna do my thing. All right, only if I'm ready for it. I honestly love that and it's relatability covered in

[00:08:27] Electro pop sassy electro pop Cheryl like just peeling a skin off this man and loving it. Like it's brilliant. Yeah. It's a great music video. Yeah, it's fun to look a pack of skill. I mean, this is the best way to, like even with like in K-pop, there's a group called Shiny, like a lot of people knew them for like the first bit of first album era, they were on darker clothes, kind of like streetwear. But then that second single comes around.

[00:09:41] It's Juliet.

[00:09:42] They have the colorful pan.

[00:09:44] They look at this video.

[00:09:45] They all have different colors, different names.

[00:09:47] I mean, Maxiwaxi, that's hysterical to me.

[00:10:41] It's good. Easy.

[00:10:41] If the song's good, even better.

[00:10:44] Yes, we love a cherry Corio for sure.

[00:10:47] And yet they definitely recycled their old choreographer

[00:10:50] as well, because this is so much better.

[00:10:52] Because the choreography for the last era was not it.

[00:10:55] But it's so interesting because they really are still,

[00:10:58] like the budget's not really there.

[00:11:00] Yeah, yeah.

[00:11:01] So it all looks like a tad cheap as well.

[00:11:04] But that almost adds to like the charm of it all.

[00:11:07] Yeah. which was done by Sean Lee, Myra Boyle, Lisa Cowling, Nick Coler, Tim Powell, Brian Higgins and Miranda Cooper. And this was released as the second single from the album. And the song was initially inspired by the Smiths and number two in the UK singles chart. The song remains when a girl's allowed signature hits, but the group actually

[00:12:20] initially hated it and were embarrassed by the track with Nadine even thinking

[00:12:24] it would be career suicide.

[00:13:24] energy that compliments the weird lyrics about breathing underwater and liking the way it feels, you know? Like, it's intense. It's arranged. I mean, obviously, vocally, they sound so good.

[00:13:29] I mean, I think... I don't say they lucked out, but there's something that happened in the stars,

[00:13:35] the cosmos, and fate, whatever you will even that brought these girls together, and they had Nadine.

[00:13:40] And they all had different voices there. They had like Nadine with those very soulful,

[00:13:43] deceptively soulful, because I heard her voice already fancy or it's like, this person. Oh, this person. Oh, and it also makes you makes you like think about who's singing. Like who's that singing? Who's that person singing? A blah, blah, blah, blah, you know, it's just fun. It's it's it's I mean, Sarah has no frickin lines. What's it? She gets kind of the outro with Nicola for the most part.

[00:15:01] Yeah.

[00:15:02] Yeah, you're right.

[00:15:03] OK.

[00:15:04] But yes, could have been more for sure.

[00:16:01] Beyonce does that sometimes. She'll say something and it's like her most recent album I was listening because I have

[00:16:04] the CD.

[00:16:05] I'm like girl that line will make no sense but she just feels a whole chest full conviction

[00:16:10] and it makes the song so much more fun when she does perform it because the lines are

[00:16:13] like, we'll watch our other songs of review.

[00:16:16] Blood.

[00:16:17] Yeah.

[00:16:18] Yeah.

[00:16:19] No, it's the same effect that Zenimania has.

[00:16:20] Just random words that are just so fun and require you to perform the crap out of it.

[00:16:23] Like you said, for sure.

[00:16:24] Yes.

[00:16:25] The music video again is still in line band. I'm not sitting at the table. It's just, they're literally, they have not much to do, you know? I'm just sitting at the table like, I think it was a wiggle-laying. It was fun. And I think when I watched, I also looked at Kim, felt like, wow, she's so pretty. That's not, again, it just goes back to, it's so simple.

[00:17:40] And they're pretty and the music is good.

[00:17:42] It's a good combination, a good leg little,

[00:17:45] all these dynamics coming together, as it went along. Yeah, it did. It got different versions of it, got different iterations of the band versions of it. Well, that's how we got to 10. All of their parts were all over the place. Like they were, they were thinking in key, but they were just so optimistic. It was just so off of certain points where it's like, Nicholas like up here and Sarah's like, ah, it was a little bit up over the place

[00:19:03] by the time I got to 10.

[00:19:04] But you know what, that's just them

[00:19:07] first seeing past sickness It has been noted that the first version produced by Sennemedia was a weird, modernist, breakbeat version, but it was decided that they would stay closer to the original since it was full of charity. And this single became the group's second number one single as stated by Nadine on the tour. Every tour. This is number one for two weeks.

[00:20:21] She's at 14 full days, y'all. And after reading that Brian actually had this original weird version for them, I would love to hear it. I hope that shows up on the anniversary release because I would love to hear this, like, what does it break the weird quirky version? Cause you know, I think it's tough. Like I get why they went safer because I do think this has mass appeal in the sense

[00:21:42] that like the older people in the UK that just want to support the charity will happily

[00:21:48] support the song. I don't think Brian is a huge fan of adliffs. There's very rarely like real proper adliffs in Zenomania songs. And then the members just kind of take it on themselves just to kind of do their own riffs and stuff live, which sometimes land and sometimes don't. You know, I don't want to be the one to say it. But yeah, you know, at the end of the day, it's a charity single.

[00:23:02] It did really well for them and it that kind of feeling except they were like not on good terms by that then

[00:24:26] Like the footage in the back end stuff was nice. Yes. Yes. I know I don't say in terms of atmosphere

[00:25:40] Sure like, glazed versions of themselves. Like, I get it. They're meant to look like beautiful and strong, like, no matter what, darling. Even me and trophy wife can be there for you. Like, I get it, but I just wish that the plunging necklines and the side boob was not like the stylistic choice. I guess way to make them look very supportive, like lovers or supportive sisters.

[00:25:43] Jeans, sweater dresses.

[00:25:45] There's a lot of ways to go about their day.

[00:25:46] Yeah.

[00:25:47] But yeah, I mean, they kind of did what they could to emote. I think the performances during the promo one were good because they kind of stopped singing live after kind of like the life got cold era. I'm not sure exactly why that was, but like the show and obviously like all those promo performances at least were all lip synced. So this one kind of forced them to sing live.

[00:27:01] Yeah.

[00:27:02] And then there was kind of a lot going on to, there's like a random performance where

[00:27:06] it's just three of them and's very secular. Yeah. Yeah. I will stick with the seven as well. I think the bass song is good, but their version is just like fine.

[00:28:22] Yeah.

[00:28:22] Out of the mill.

[00:28:23] Yeah.

[00:28:24] All right.

[00:28:24] So track four on the album is Jump, which we actually did.

[00:29:21] He eats up. I was always so curious to know how that worked back in the day.

[00:29:24] I get it because we both worked in it.

[00:29:26] But when I was a kid, I was like, why am I hearing this all the time?

[00:29:29] Who decides that this is good?

[00:29:30] Why?

[00:29:31] You know what I'm saying?

[00:29:31] It's just so interesting.

[00:29:33] But yeah, you know what?

[00:29:34] I like to say this is Sarah's song.

[00:29:37] Because she eats it up in the beginning.

[00:29:38] She makes games.

[00:29:40] She does.

[00:29:40] She doesn't have many opportunities to give, except that

[00:29:42] him bridges or an outro's are like, you know, I know what you're looking at.

[00:29:46] I'm looking at the underground. This right here is like, Oh, yeah, honey. We're drinking margaritas and you're looking at me and we want to break the

[00:31:02] rolls. And then the Dean's like, saying, that's Kim. But it was like, no, it sounds too thin. And then it wasn't until like the video came out that was like, oh yeah, that's Nicola. So yes, we love that. We love hearing different parts of the tone. Yeah. And yeah, and the vocal distribution wise, yeah, I'm glad at least all five have a moment in this one for sure.

[00:32:20] And again, it goes back to Zenimania, like really catering to their voices as well.

[00:32:24] Because I think they's one of their best music videos. Oh, yeah. Like, again, it looks cheap, because if you could tell they're on a green screen, you know they're not really riding these motorcycles, but in this case, they're, like, fully embracing that and kind of making a joke of it. And then, of course, you get the little gags with, like, you know, Kimberly's hairdryer

[00:33:40] and Sarah, they all polished and everything.

[00:33:43] And it's all just, like, messy.

[00:33:45] Like, even that, like, dance moment when they're hot. Cause like, it's like girls on board, like, oh, hey. It's like those Carl's Jr. uh, comosese, like those ads with the hamburger and the cars. Oh, yes. That's the kind of vibe I was, it's a very just randomly hot, sexy ladies on bikes. Oh my God. Like, you know, so I like the live performances

[00:35:00] because watching them do their, um,

[00:35:04] they look choreography with the for this one. It's really dynamic. A lot of little formations changes, like different lines as well. Like there's the V, there's kind of all that. And there's just a lot like, yeah, there's a lot going on. Like that one point, like three of them go down while the other two stay up. And it's just like a lot going on, which I appreciate. Yeah, it's definitely always a highlight on the tours as well.

[00:36:22] Yeah, absolutely.

[00:36:22] There's a little in those songs.

[00:36:24] Like I didn't understand the meaning of it.

[00:36:25] I think it's like, you don't need to.

[00:36:28] Right. in it. Yes. Actually, yeah, I'll match you 9.5. Up next is Deadlands Diet, written by Matt Gray, Brian Higgins and Miranda Cooper. And this recorded originally by Moonbaby, aka Miranda Cooper. Whoa. But the members of Girls Allowed wanted to release the track as a single.

[00:37:40] And fortunately or unfortunately, it didn't happen, but we do have both

[00:37:43] versions of Moonbaby and Girls Allowed.

[00:37:46] And yeah, drop in the comments if you think this should have been a single. different vibe to each one as well. Yeah. And this is also when Brian really started utilizing Nicholas more soft, kind of innocent tone. Yeah. Like he always loved that. She would say later that she wished she got to belt a little bit sometimes because he only would kind of want her to do this, this part of her voice.

[00:39:01] Yeah.

[00:39:01] But in this case, I think it totally works because it just

[00:39:05] makes sense, especially in juxtaposition with Cheryl and out the heck. So the phone and the tee thing doesn't seem that far but not at all. Not at all. And I heard it that it was funny. I think the little twist of the beautiful love Rhett 3am being married is so rom-com troll. But apparently it's very relatable because there are people out here be thought and embop and just wearing their rings as golden Cheerios apparently who do things like this. So they kind of sleep with people who

[00:40:23] like, Oh, I'm not married. I said that there is somebody who said it somewhere when the song came out, there's like a reporter who mentioned it. So I don't feel bad. I was like, am I the only person that believe? It's not, it's just from me, I'm just like, it sounds like it a little bit because like the whole like jazzy cool thing, there's nothing else that compliments the song

[00:41:40] on the album for me.

[00:41:41] So that's why I'm kind of like, yeah.

[00:41:43] So my score will not be that high at this time.

[00:41:46] But but you, how do you feel about this one? Yeah, I get that pull you out that something because even some of my songs. I'm like, I don't think I really that anymore Some parts of it. Yeah, I like that. But everyone else in that room Has experience so why not try to elevate things just a little bit more like hey, this sounds good love But why don't we try it like this? Maybe they did maybe this was the best that they could come up with but it's just you know It's not it's not terrible. It sounds mysterious. It definitely

[00:43:04] carries the the melody is it's like kind of sinister, it's kind of creepy and weird and that fits kind of the creepiness of the lyrics a little bit. I think Cheryl sounds great on the verses, she kind of uses her mix and again it all just kind of sounds kind of nonchalant but kind of suggestive and kind of like sexy and yeah I think that was done really well. But it's not a song I really

[00:44:22] go back to very often but I think to get something out the way first. I want to say something really like, but I don't like it but I think that the drum machine sounds cheap.

[00:45:42] It bothers me every time it comes on and the am as a person. And I guess like with their profile becoming larger and like Sarah eventually being seen as like the party girl, this song has a layer to both the group and her, where it's like, hey, we're not just X, Y, and Z. We're not what you see on something else. Hear me out first and understand why I am like this or understand that what you saw was not the full story.

[00:47:00] And not as what I appreciate about it,

[00:47:02] which also ties into making the autobiography even more poignant song. It's just the most interesting one. But yeah, I think the production is, I'm okay with the drums on it. I think the synths are cool. Like the way it's kind of that like underwater kind of effect where it's all kind of muffled and echo-y. And so I don't mind the, I don't mind the drum choice. I appreciate how the chorus actually is kind of a unison kind of battle cry, you know, normally

[00:48:21] I'm like, we need more harmonies. But in this originally offered to Britney Spears for her in the zone. Hellbum. Yeah. And Ruhrer has it that she did actually record the demo of it, but it's still unheard by the public. I mean, we did review in the zone, so definitely be sure to check out our review of Britney's

[00:49:42] Icon-Acka album.

[00:49:45] After this, obviously. What does graffiti my soul mean? After careful listening, I'm totally joking. But yeah, the graffiti my soul I was like one like like tag my soul like leave a mark on it because the lyrics are very much about keeping things super cash The lyrics are like what is it got your name on my face got your name on my face when I heard that was like What does that mean got your name on my face your face online? Yeah, and it open-hearted ate my philosophy

[00:51:02] I need I need a walking talking mannequin. So basically they just We can get it done and you leave. That's it. So that's, it's just fun to kind of hear that considering the time and happy though, like women should be this and women should be that. So it's nice to hear that. Yeah. I saw Brian had said that Britney's team wanted like a sound of the underground part two, basically.

[00:52:21] And this is kind of what they came up second it starts with the Dean kind of acapella doing what I thought I would say is acorists, right? And then you get stuttering, you get Kimberly doing full rap verse, which is great. The kitchen is theirs, yeah. Yeah, so it's super memorable. I think it's an awesome song. And yeah, I agree with you. I was like, go off and like the, the smiles was there. They just felt like young, funny something. I mean, including Nicola, but you know, 20 something women just doing their thing and having a good time. They sounded good. Like they sat, well, it wasn't lip sync, right? It was for sure. It was. I thought so. Thank you. Thank you. The pre-recorded vocals sound great. Yeah. Okay. Thank you. Cause I'm like, am I tripping or?

[00:55:04] But yeah, as super confident, I enjoy it. it. Oh, like, it beaded the song. Yeah, and it's just supported. Oh, yeah. Well, I actually was more like mad. I was like, I first off, I just hate when they used album tracks as B-side, because I'm like, well, that was lazy.

[00:56:21] And also, I think this song is really good.

[00:56:24] And I feel like it shouldn't be a great showcase for the group too. Very evenly distributed for the most part. You get Sarah, Kit, and Kim leading the chorus, the other three on the verses, and there's a lot of kind of just switching back and forth as well. And then we'll get to the performance, but what did you think of real life? The first verse is hilarious, because Cheryl having a romp with the guy

[00:57:40] and then passing him over to the friend

[00:57:42] just because he's clingy.

[00:57:43] That's hilarious.

[00:57:45] So funny, but you know what?

[00:57:46] The thing is with Or is it like, you know, maybe he needs to remember his place as occupation as just the guy that hitting quit it and understand that when she feels like when the moment's right, then they should connect, you know, keeping things. No, I think it's the former. I think they're completely unrelated. Yeah. That's what I'm saying though. Why am I sitting here being like, well, what's real life about this? But

[00:59:02] you're talking about having having relations with this it, but it happened and it didn't sound bad together. Not saying that the chicken or the egg situation happened. I will say that later, but it was just interesting hearing like, wow,

[01:00:22] now listen to K-pop, I can listen to this readily

[01:00:25] and like accept it as like, okay,

[01:00:27] something crazy might happen. with the band version as well. Just a lot of great choices. Definitely one of the best performances on that tour and really made the song even better. No, absolutely. They've been through a lot of different like band with scuff, samba, big band, a lot of bass. So I mean, it all worked out. It sounded really nice. Yeah, solid song, super solid song. Yeah, I remember you playing it for me a lot.

[01:01:41] That's how I also like it.

[01:01:43] You know, I'm not like against it,

[01:01:44] but for this album, I was like,

[01:01:46] what are these lyrics?

[01:01:48] I noticed it finally. version. I didn't even know it existed because I was this I grew up watching totally spies I even cosplayed at them like a couple years ago but I cosplays the I just love the show and we were doing the pop 101 I was like why is it why I felt familiar why why don't I know the thought and then the course came around I was like this is the chicken no wait this is deep yeah this is the

[01:03:01] chicken this is not really chicken I know a girl generation song Hoot like when I first heard Hoot I was like oh What are these guitars like surf guitars and it felt like James Bond and I mean granted that song was written by some Brits and some Swedes So I wouldn't be surprised if there was some insta if not completely fine. It's just interesting how it's like

[01:04:20] That kind of concept is just it's good for what was going on with the song.

[01:05:41] Yeah, and lean, and lean.

[01:05:42] Yes, and lean kind of has that same tone too.

[01:05:45] Yeah, it's slinky, as I went with it. But yeah, I think I think Girls Lads version is good. It's definitely not as sultry as maybe the Miranda or lean versions. I mean, I think Cheryl and Kimberly do kind of emote that well. And then Nicola again kind of using that softer tone where it kind of sounds

[01:07:03] kind of more innocent as well was kind of and Miranda Cooper. I mean, at this point we could have just said in the mania, but I don't know. Yeah, but it's like different members of the enemy. Yeah, for you songs. So we'll give you each a shout out. Yeah. You know, every time we love y'all, this song was a little comfortable with me.

[01:08:21] Mm, interesting.

[01:08:23] This song, the lyric.

[01:08:24] I mean, if you're feeling jaded by the constant rotation Yeah, well my secret and sort details on my love life daddy, you know like that like a dupe like I said I think Cheryl sounded really good in that but I

[01:11:00] think melodically this one's just a little bit more memorable here. And I think the evenness of the actually does have two more tracks because if you didn't notice, we did not talk about the songs that Nicola and Nadine co-wrote. So if you would like to hear our thoughts on these two songs, we are putting up our review exclusively on our Patreon page and also on our

[01:12:28] to hear our thoughts on those time. So yeah, sorry, Cheryl. I will also cut big brother. Okay. So if I had to keep a song, I'd be, I guess I'll stick with graffiti, my soul. Ha, ha, ha. If I had to pick a single, I'd probably stick with wake me up. How about you? I had to keep a song.

[01:13:40] I mean, I like themes in my music.

[01:13:43] I like hearing themes, thematic things.

[01:13:47] Scene setting.

[01:13:48] My point is here we go. like, Oh my God, we're gonna ethobar careers with this one. Y'all didn't have a new career. So this is, I think this album is solid. And for people who are like looking for pop artists to get into, even though it was like, Oh, I mean, this was a pretty good fresh take on the pop sound at the time, I think, considering what I

[01:15:00] know, you know, and what I like, I think is pretty solid.

[01:15:04] Yeah, it's a great girl group album.

[01:15:06] I'm very happy for them, I'm definitely like a blueprint. Oh, definitely. Yeah.

[01:16:20] Yeah.

[01:16:21] So what would you give it as an overall rating?

[01:16:22] I would give this one an eight.

[01:16:24] I think it's a good number for the cause my numbers, my scores were a little bit lower.
