Dannii Minogue's "Neon Nights" turns 20, and we're finally sitting down with it start to finish. This is our first time listening to the 2003 album in full, and we go track by track through every song for an honest review of what holds up, what got slept on, and whether this really is the lost pop classic its fans have been calling it for two decades.
From the club hits "Put the Needle on It," "I Begin to Wonder" and "Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling" to deep cuts like "Mystified," "Push" and "A Piece of Time," we break down the production, the songwriting, the samples, and the stories behind the record Dannii Minogue made when everyone thought her music career was over. We cover the Stockholm and Paris sessions, the Madonna "Into the Groove" sample she cleared for the "Don't Wanna Lose This Groove" mashup, the early credit from a now-massive hitmaker hiding on the tracklist, and why London Records handed her a six-album deal and only ever released one. Fans of Kylie Minogue, Madonna and early 2000s dance-pop will find a lot to love here. Then we give every track our Cut or Keep verdict.

00:00:00 --> 00:00:02 Put the needle on it.
00:00:02 --> 00:00:03 I'll tell you where I want it.
00:00:04 --> 00:00:05 Put the needle on it.
00:00:07 --> 00:00:13 This is CCTV, the nonstop pop show where we provide our unfiltered, honest opinions on global pop music.
00:00:13 --> 00:00:14 Yes, that's right.
00:00:14 --> 00:00:19 And one of the most requested artists for us to talk about on CCTV is Dani Minogue.
00:00:19 --> 00:00:22 We've shown the spotlight on her sister Kylie for a bunch of episodes already.
00:00:23 --> 00:00:27 So it's time to shift and talk about baby sis Dani's Neon Nights.
00:00:27 --> 00:00:28 Yes.
00:00:28 --> 00:00:35 So neither of us had ever heard the entirety of this album until these past few weeks.
00:00:35 --> 00:00:38 I knew the singles, you know.
00:00:38 --> 00:00:41 But yeah, for some reason, I just never really gave it the time.
00:00:41 --> 00:00:42 And now I kind of regret it.
00:00:43 --> 00:01:04 you know that's valid i didn't know anything about this girl you kept saying danny's this danny that danny this and i said okay and then we also heard the the the christmas 100 degrees i thought wow this is fun so i'm excited to kind of really get into it you've had this request for a really long time so shout out to our patreon member ren for making this request i mean a
00:01:06 --> 00:01:06 Please.
00:01:07 --> 00:01:07 Thank you.
00:01:08 --> 00:01:09 So we appreciate you.
00:01:09 --> 00:01:15 And also, if you want to have the power to tell us what to do, you can also join us on Patreon at CCTV Pops.
00:01:16 --> 00:01:16 Yes.
00:01:16 --> 00:01:22 So Neon Nights is Dani Minow's fourth studio album, released in March 2003 on London Records.
00:01:23 --> 00:01:25 And it does remain her most successful album to date.
00:01:26 --> 00:01:30 And this album actually exists because Dani actually thought her music career was over.
00:01:31 --> 00:01:33 Her third album, Girl, released in 1997, underperformed...
00:01:35 --> 00:01:37 that label folded, and then she was dropped.
00:01:38 --> 00:01:41 And even her album before that missed the UK Top 40 too.
00:01:42 --> 00:01:47 So she had moved into theatre, and she actually had said in an interview that she was just at peace with everything being finished.
00:01:49 --> 00:01:58 And then the reset, the great reset, came in 2001 when P-Tong asked her to put a vocal on Stringer, a club instrumental by Dutch duo Riva.
00:01:59 --> 00:02:05 That became Who Do You Love Now, a UK number three in her longest charting single at 16 weeks.
00:02:05 --> 00:02:09 On the back of it, London Records handed her a six-album deal.
00:02:09 --> 00:02:12 And her brief for the album was very specific.
00:02:12 --> 00:02:15 She wanted to make an album that sounded like remixes of pop songs.
00:02:18 --> 00:02:42 atmosphere she wanted to close her eyes and feel like she was on a dance floor under a disco ball hey and just to remind everyone about the timeline here this is before madonna's confessions right this is before dua lipa this is before you know all these other artists were doing it so our friend edward when i told him we were about to do this review he was like this was she was ahead of
00:02:43 --> 00:02:43 The Times.
00:02:43 --> 00:02:44 Yeah.
00:02:44 --> 00:02:44 Wow.
00:02:44 --> 00:02:47 We have reviewed Madonna's Confessions, both one and two.
00:02:47 --> 00:02:49 So make sure you check that out after this episode.
00:02:50 --> 00:02:56 So Neon Nights peaked at number eight in the UK and it went gold and it also earned her an Aria nomination in Australia.
00:02:57 --> 00:03:06 And though there were plans for more singles, the album campaign unfortunately came to an abrupt halt due to major corporate restructuring and financial constraints at London Records.
00:03:07 --> 00:03:15 But 20 years later, the 2023 Neon Nights anniversary release hit number one on the UK dance album star and peaked at number 17 in Australia as well.
00:03:16 --> 00:03:23 Yeah, so today we're going to dive into the production, vocals, visuals, performances of each song, and then drop our individual ratings.
00:03:23 --> 00:03:25 But viewer discretion is advised.
00:03:26 --> 00:03:28 Your fate will be criticized.
00:03:28 --> 00:03:32 Yes, and you want to hear all your ratings and thoughts too, so put them all in the comments.
00:03:32 --> 00:03:34 Alright, so we're getting right into this album.
00:03:34 --> 00:03:39 Before we do that, we're talking about the visual aesthetic around the whole thing.
00:03:39 --> 00:03:46 The album cover itself, the deluxe version, and then even the 28 year anniversary release.
00:03:46 --> 00:03:52 Like, so many different versions of this one pose, this one dress, and that one pair of shoes.
00:03:53 --> 00:03:54 Yes.
00:03:54 --> 00:03:59 So she did say it was inspired by Liza Minnelli at Studio 54, like crawling on the floor, basically.
00:04:00 --> 00:04:00 That's amazing.
00:04:00 --> 00:04:04 So it's kind of like, you know, after a long night, she's got to take those heels off.
00:04:05 --> 00:04:06 That is so funny to me.
00:04:06 --> 00:04:08 I mean, I can see the psych wall behind her.
00:04:09 --> 00:04:13 I wish, I really do wish she were in like in a club, like a, like a little dirty club.
00:04:13 --> 00:04:15 Just kind of really give it that.
00:04:15 --> 00:04:16 What's about?
00:04:16 --> 00:04:17 She looks great.
00:04:17 --> 00:04:21 Again, I did not know if I would look at her, I would like, Oh, that's Kylie Minogue's sister.
00:04:21 --> 00:04:22 So I do appreciate that.
00:04:22 --> 00:04:25 This is kind of bare black dress.
00:04:25 --> 00:04:25 Like I am like,
00:04:27 --> 00:04:27 Hello.
00:04:27 --> 00:04:28 Like, she looks good.
00:04:28 --> 00:04:29 I am the birthday.
00:04:29 --> 00:04:30 Like, she looks good.
00:04:31 --> 00:04:32 She does look really good.
00:04:32 --> 00:04:35 I will say, I do prefer the shot on the deluxe cover.
00:04:35 --> 00:04:35 Oof.
00:04:36 --> 00:04:36 Okay, yeah.
00:04:36 --> 00:04:37 Yeah, with, like, kind of one shoe off.
00:04:37 --> 00:04:40 She's kind of in the process of taking off the other shoe.
00:04:40 --> 00:04:44 It's just more of an action shot than the one that's on the standard where she's kind of just...
00:04:45 --> 00:05:07 I'm about to take it off maybe yeah um and I will say though out of all kind of the single covers and everything from this era I actually prefer the put the needle on it single cover oh yeah that close-up shot where her eyes just it's beautiful it's like cursing yeah so I actually love that the most I like that one more than the album covers I think
00:05:07 --> 00:05:10 Yeah, that pixie cut with the whole look, this is very 80s.
00:05:10 --> 00:05:14 I feel like that really embodies what the album starts to kind of sound like.
00:05:14 --> 00:05:14 Yeah.
00:05:15 --> 00:05:16 But I don't want to get ahead of myself.
00:05:17 --> 00:05:20 But I also do want to get into this checklist thing because it was so freaking good.
00:05:20 --> 00:05:23 We're going to start with Put the Needle on It.
00:05:24 --> 00:05:28 And this was done by Danny Winogue, Henrik Korpy, Matthias Johnasson, a.k.a.
00:05:28 --> 00:05:30 Black Cell, and Karen Poole.
00:05:30 --> 00:05:34 And we've said and heard many years on this show about Karen.
00:05:34 --> 00:05:35 Yes, legend.
00:05:35 --> 00:05:35 Yes.
00:05:35 --> 00:05:42 Yes, and this is the lead single from the album released November 2002, hitting number 7 in the UK and number 11 in Australia.
00:05:49 --> 00:06:06 I love this one The second it kicks in First off just with a repeated Put the needle on it put It already sounds like Kind of a DJ scratch But like vocally right And then it kicks in and then the whompiness Of that bass line and all the bubble popping
00:06:07 --> 00:06:08 That's kind of happening.
00:06:08 --> 00:06:10 Like, it definitely makes you want to dance.
00:06:10 --> 00:06:12 It does capture your attention, which is nice.
00:06:13 --> 00:06:16 And the vocal production is so good.
00:06:16 --> 00:06:18 There's so many layers.
00:06:18 --> 00:06:20 There's all these octaves high and low.
00:06:21 --> 00:06:24 There's just so much depth to the way the whole thing was.
00:06:24 --> 00:06:25 It just is very...
00:06:25 --> 00:06:27 Sounds really good, you know?
00:06:27 --> 00:06:28 And I think, obviously...
00:06:29 --> 00:06:34 We've already mentioned Kylie a couple times, but just to address the elephant in the room, right?
00:06:34 --> 00:06:36 She definitely does sound like Kylie.
00:06:37 --> 00:07:01 in many moments across this album like look they're siblings they have they naturally have similar tones but danny does have a lower voice yeah and her belt is actually more natural than kylie's which is interesting not so nasally yeah but then when she does go all breathy like she does in this one it really does sound like kylie in certain words you know yeah
00:07:02 --> 00:07:04 But yeah, I just think the whole thing is just fun.
00:07:04 --> 00:07:08 Like the innuendo of the lyrics is fun.
00:07:09 --> 00:07:12 And you get all the little breaths and moans and stuff too.
00:07:12 --> 00:07:13 So yeah, I love this one.
00:07:13 --> 00:07:15 Every time it comes on, I'm excited about it.
00:07:16 --> 00:07:17 Yeah, this one's interesting.
00:07:17 --> 00:07:18 So shout out to baby sister.
00:07:18 --> 00:07:19 Hello.
00:07:19 --> 00:07:21 I was a younger sibling myself.
00:07:21 --> 00:07:24 I was, gosh, you try to get it from under your sister's shadow.
00:07:24 --> 00:07:25 I'm joking.
00:07:25 --> 00:07:26 I'm joking.
00:07:27 --> 00:07:29 But yeah, this production is definitely my style.
00:07:29 --> 00:07:31 It's funk, which I do love.
00:07:31 --> 00:07:40 And I think I've said it so many times on this show where it's like, oh, I'm expecting like when I hear a dance record or like I'm making a dance album, I'm thinking like house funk.
00:07:40 --> 00:08:03 funk grooves more than just just like oh we did disco i'm like okay that's only because of like what i grew up listening to um so yeah this has a definitely has like a very strange uh production quality to it but it's definitely funky there's a groove to it as opposed to like pulse um and i think you guys if you don't know what i'm saying i do apologize i'm trying to like there's something less and more like mm-hmm
00:08:04 --> 00:08:32 you know it's different it does something different to your body the body moves differently um the the breathiness and the ad libs make this feel so much more fun as opposed to like you know i'm just really horny it's like unapologetically fun and flirty um the dirty hands i demand in the bridge is great like that as a catchphrase is catchphrase as like a repeat phrase is good as well um i love the lyrics i'll tell you where i want to come on and spend me on girl what
00:08:34 --> 00:08:38 My mom has this saying when she's like kind of over something, she's like, you can sit on it and rotate.
00:08:39 --> 00:08:40 And then she'll also flip the bird.
00:08:40 --> 00:08:46 And I'm like, I love that line that she uses it to hear it in a song in a similar motion, but for actually what it's for.
00:08:46 --> 00:08:47 I love it.
00:08:47 --> 00:08:51 The song is super cheeky throughout the production as well.
00:08:51 --> 00:08:52 And it gets wonky.
00:08:52 --> 00:08:53 Yeah.
00:08:53 --> 00:08:59 Since throughout, I would say production wise, this thing could be a little bit of a mess, but it works.
00:08:59 --> 00:09:00 It definitely works.
00:09:00 --> 00:09:01 It's like dancing bodies at the club, right?
00:09:01 --> 00:09:02 It's a little sweaty.
00:09:02 --> 00:09:03 It's a little all over the place.
00:09:03 --> 00:09:06 You don't know who's touching you, but the vibes are high and it's a good time.
00:09:06 --> 00:09:08 I think that is the whole idea of the song.
00:09:09 --> 00:09:13 And it's here in this four minute track.
00:09:13 --> 00:09:15 We haven't heard a four minute song in a while.
00:09:18 --> 00:09:18 Yes.
00:09:18 --> 00:09:22 And there's the music video, which is very fun.
00:09:22 --> 00:09:27 I mean, even just from the beginning, you see the giant needle come down, you go into the grooves and then she shows up.
00:09:28 --> 00:09:29 Yes.
00:09:29 --> 00:09:33 But that shot of her rotating on the giant vinyl is perfect.
00:09:33 --> 00:09:55 right so perfect right and i was watching a behind the scenes and she was like yeah they want me to be all kind of like twitchy and like glitchy and like the movement of it which is kind of funny interesting choice i'm not sure if that fully matches the song but sure um i do think that the part where she's in the corner though and all the little visual by the music i thought that was an interesting visual
00:09:56 --> 00:09:57 You know, can I tell you something?
00:09:57 --> 00:09:57 Y'all listen.
00:09:57 --> 00:09:59 So I read Boy's Love.
00:09:59 --> 00:10:00 Wow.
00:10:00 --> 00:10:02 I don't know if it's a shocker to anyone, but if it is, I do.
00:10:03 --> 00:10:12 And there's a story called The Black Mirror, not similar to the Netflix series, but yeah, one of the characters has like control over the shadows and he uses his hands.
00:10:12 --> 00:10:19 When I saw that, I was like, you know, I'm not going to say anything else about it.
00:10:19 --> 00:10:21 It's a horror BL.
00:10:21 --> 00:10:22 So remember, watch it guys.
00:10:22 --> 00:10:22 Please do.
00:10:22 --> 00:10:23 It's really good.
00:10:23 --> 00:10:25 But also it's really good.
00:10:25 --> 00:10:25 Yeah.
00:10:26 --> 00:10:34 But yeah, I think it's so interesting that she managed to be spinning on a record when her sister's Fever album came out two years prior and they didn't even do that.
00:10:34 --> 00:10:35 Like she just came up like this.
00:10:36 --> 00:10:36 Hang on, I'm gonna do it.
00:10:36 --> 00:10:37 I'm gonna do it.
00:10:37 --> 00:10:38 At the Brits.
00:10:38 --> 00:10:38 You know?
00:10:39 --> 00:10:39 You know?
00:10:39 --> 00:10:40 Yes.
00:10:40 --> 00:10:42 So to not have her spin, but to have Danny spin.
00:10:43 --> 00:10:44 Go ahead, girl.
00:10:44 --> 00:10:45 I'm rooting for the baby sister.
00:10:45 --> 00:10:47 But yeah, I think it's really fun.
00:10:47 --> 00:10:48 She looks really hot.
00:10:48 --> 00:10:49 That's one thing I will say.
00:10:50 --> 00:10:52 The mom and the dad, y'all did it twice.
00:10:52 --> 00:10:53 Congrats.
00:10:53 --> 00:10:54 Congrats.
00:10:54 --> 00:10:54 Yeah.
00:10:56 --> 00:10:58 performances have been, were amazing.
00:10:58 --> 00:11:00 I, the top of the pop one is fire.
00:11:00 --> 00:11:02 Oh, with the poles as a pole dancer.
00:11:02 --> 00:11:03 Yeah.
00:11:03 --> 00:11:04 I mean, y'all see me right now.
00:11:04 --> 00:11:06 I'm like, I would definitely spin on the ball.
00:11:06 --> 00:11:08 Put the needle.
00:11:10 --> 00:11:11 She sells it.
00:11:11 --> 00:11:12 I agree.
00:11:12 --> 00:11:13 The whole dynamic is great.
00:11:13 --> 00:11:15 You have the four male dancers in the back.
00:11:15 --> 00:11:16 They're kind of doing the hard hitting stuff the whole time.
00:11:16 --> 00:11:21 And the girls are kind of splitting their time between joining them and doing the polls.
00:11:21 --> 00:11:23 And then Danny's kind of bouncing around, too.
00:11:23 --> 00:11:26 Like, it was just a really full performance.
00:11:26 --> 00:11:27 Yes.
00:11:27 --> 00:11:31 And even without the polls, Danny's killing it, honestly.
00:11:31 --> 00:11:32 Yes.
00:11:32 --> 00:11:32 Yeah.
00:11:32 --> 00:11:35 Like the choreo they give her is actually quite difficult.
00:11:35 --> 00:11:36 It is.
00:11:36 --> 00:11:37 You have to hit pretty hard.
00:11:37 --> 00:11:40 Like some of the like weight changes and stuff were kind of a little weird.
00:11:40 --> 00:11:42 And she's wearing these heels and like keeping up.
00:11:43 --> 00:11:46 Yeah, I would say she can dance a little booty off.
00:11:46 --> 00:11:48 I mean, but they've been training since they were like, what?
00:11:48 --> 00:11:53 Like so young now, like after watching that Kylie documentary and stuff, like even in it for a minute.
00:11:54 --> 00:11:54 Yeah, that's true.
00:11:55 --> 00:11:57 There was the performance at the Mardi Gras as well in 2015.
00:11:58 --> 00:11:59 Oh my gosh.
00:11:59 --> 00:12:01 It opened that performance and it was like a new arrangement.
00:12:01 --> 00:12:08 It had all these extra kind of more soulful background dancers and these dancers in these giant hats like sulturally walking around.
00:12:08 --> 00:12:09 It was great.
00:12:09 --> 00:12:10 Yes.
00:12:10 --> 00:12:11 Give it the promenade.
00:12:11 --> 00:12:12 Come on, y'all.
00:12:12 --> 00:12:13 Oh man.
00:12:13 --> 00:12:16 But yes, this is definitely a beautiful start to the album.
00:12:16 --> 00:12:17 Yes.
00:12:17 --> 00:12:19 So number 10 for me.
00:12:19 --> 00:12:21 Definitely a 10 for me as well.
00:12:21 --> 00:12:22 Okay.
00:12:22 --> 00:12:28 Okay, next up is Creep, done by Danny Minogue, Henrik Korpi, Black Cell, and Karen Poole.
00:12:34 --> 00:12:34 That's right.
00:12:34 --> 00:12:37 And this is not the TLC or Radiohead song.
00:12:37 --> 00:12:38 This is Annie's song.
00:12:39 --> 00:12:39 Yes.
00:12:40 --> 00:12:47 And I love that there's a pull from American post-disco slash electro-funk aesthetics and sonics rather than a European club.
00:12:48 --> 00:12:50 And no offense to European club.
00:12:50 --> 00:12:51 Guys, I don't hate it.
00:12:51 --> 00:12:52 I'm just saying.
00:12:52 --> 00:13:00 It's just when you hear dance and it's like a Brit pop-leaning or Australian artist, it usually is just disco and then everything else is like...
00:13:01 --> 00:13:30 whatever the heck elton tink was doing while they were like in europe it's not that bad it's okay um but yes this song belongs on the halloween pop playlist i've been building up in my imagination jade's um was it hit my heart with all the lock and the key in the door i like that song um into that room the room whatever that song goes um mel b step inside those titles are escaping my brain like i said it's in my head i haven't actually made the list
00:13:30 --> 00:13:34 But yeah, this song does a good job of setting up a creepy, shadowy figure in your mind.
00:13:35 --> 00:13:35 Yes.
00:13:35 --> 00:13:37 And this song is creepy, pun intended.
00:13:37 --> 00:13:39 Like, crawl and creep up to me.
00:13:40 --> 00:13:40 Hear me out.
00:13:40 --> 00:13:44 Like, I'm not one for the whole, like, slipping up behind me and, like, dancing.
00:13:47 --> 00:13:47 Yeah.
00:13:48 --> 00:13:49 I'm like, don't touch me.
00:13:49 --> 00:13:49 Right?
00:13:49 --> 00:13:51 I mean, if it's Belmont Cameli, maybe.
00:13:51 --> 00:13:52 Like, that...
00:13:53 --> 00:13:54 He could touch me.
00:13:55 --> 00:13:55 But...
00:13:57 --> 00:14:01 Guys, if you don't know who Bill Montcameli is, he is the lead actor of Off Campus.
00:14:01 --> 00:14:02 He does have a girlfriend, so I'm totally joking.
00:14:03 --> 00:14:06 But also, if he's single ever, you know, I'll still think about it.
00:14:07 --> 00:14:11 But yeah, this song also reminds me of, have you ever seen the Shadow Man skit?
00:14:12 --> 00:14:12 No.
00:14:12 --> 00:14:12 No.
00:14:13 --> 00:14:17 Okay, so The Shadow Man is a skit from Hug the Sun.
00:14:17 --> 00:14:18 It's an Australian show.
00:14:19 --> 00:14:22 And if you have not seen it, please, y'all, look it up after this episode.
00:14:22 --> 00:14:25 The Shadow Man, he sneaks, he creeps, he eats apples, he steals books.
00:14:26 --> 00:14:28 Like, he wants to plunge the world into darkness, right?
00:14:28 --> 00:14:29 And he's really creepy.
00:14:29 --> 00:14:32 Like, the way he's set up is just, he slinks like this.
00:14:33 --> 00:14:35 And then the main character just put a light on him.
00:14:35 --> 00:14:36 He goes, oh, the light.
00:14:37 --> 00:14:37 Oh, the light.
00:14:38 --> 00:14:38 Like the sound.
00:14:39 --> 00:14:41 It's really ridiculous.
00:14:41 --> 00:14:46 But the way he's like, oh, the light, reminds me of this song with the creep in the sun.
00:14:47 --> 00:14:47 Nice.
00:14:47 --> 00:14:50 So if there were a visuality featuring...
00:14:50 --> 00:15:06 absolutely because he's like doing like he's doing like you know cobra he's like doing down it's a mess it's it's really stupid the skit but the song just makes you think of the shadow man and the creepiness and the moaning like nice
00:15:07 --> 00:15:08 Oh, man.
00:15:08 --> 00:15:09 Yeah, this one's fun.
00:15:09 --> 00:15:13 The instrumental of this is great with all kind of the wiry, siren-y sounds.
00:15:13 --> 00:15:17 There's a staccato-ness to the synth, which does make it feel kind of sinister.
00:15:18 --> 00:15:21 And there's all these, like, metallic sounds, too, in the pre-chorus as well.
00:15:21 --> 00:15:23 And, yeah, I think the way the chorus is written is fun.
00:15:23 --> 00:15:32 Because with the whole lower, deeper, like, add that kind of response with that kind of vocoder effect on it.
00:15:32 --> 00:15:32 Yes.
00:15:32 --> 00:15:36 And there's that kind of creepy male, like, because they lower the octave.
00:15:36 --> 00:15:38 So it sounds kind of scary as well.
00:15:38 --> 00:15:39 So, yeah, that's really fun.
00:15:40 --> 00:15:46 And then the way the background vocals are arranged for this, too, it's like certain words, they're emphasized or repeated kind of after the fact.
00:15:46 --> 00:15:48 So, again, just like really, really dynamic production there.
00:15:50 --> 00:15:52 The breakdown before the final chorus is...
00:15:52 --> 00:16:19 definitely threw me off the first time you get all these like zipping sounds that just kind of go all over the place i do wish there was a proper bridge there instead but i don't mind the zipping i guess it's like a shadow man being scary and jumping around well like like the grinch oh god but yeah i like this one i'll give it a nine i also give this one a nine i like that hey
00:16:20 --> 00:16:23 Up next is, I begin to wonder.
00:16:24 --> 00:16:25 This is done by Jean-Claude Avis.
00:16:26 --> 00:16:32 Dasia Bridges, Olaf Kramlowski, Danny Minogue, and Ian Masterson.
00:16:32 --> 00:16:36 And this song already existed as a club record by DJ Jean-Claude Ades.
00:16:36 --> 00:16:41 And she, she, Danny, asked him to convert it into a proper pop song.
00:16:41 --> 00:16:47 And this is a second single from the album release, March, 2003, hitting number two in the UK and number 14 in Australia.
00:16:48 --> 00:16:55 And the song was released with a mashup version, began to spin me round, which matched the song with dead or alive.
00:16:55 --> 00:17:00 You spin me right around, right around like a... Y'all know the jam.
00:17:00 --> 00:17:02 If you don't, why are you here?
00:17:03 --> 00:17:04 Go learn and come back.
00:17:11 --> 00:17:11 Yes.
00:17:11 --> 00:17:15 So this is Dani's top song on Spotify.
00:17:15 --> 00:17:19 Arguably her biggest hit in her career.
00:17:19 --> 00:17:20 Chris is giving me a look right now.
00:17:21 --> 00:17:21 So...
00:17:25 --> 00:17:27 I, of course, knew this song before.
00:17:27 --> 00:17:30 So this has been on my playlists for a while, right?
00:17:31 --> 00:17:32 And I've always really enjoyed this one.
00:17:32 --> 00:17:35 I've always, like, put the needle on it a bit more, to be honest.
00:17:35 --> 00:17:37 But this one is super fun, right?
00:17:38 --> 00:17:41 Every time I hear it out at clubs and stuff, it does always go off.
00:17:42 --> 00:17:43 Because it is atmospheric.
00:17:43 --> 00:17:45 There is some tension in it.
00:17:45 --> 00:17:48 That whole, I begin to wonder.
00:17:48 --> 00:17:50 You know, you get people just kind of...
00:17:51 --> 00:17:53 I don't know, there's dynamic to it, you know?
00:17:53 --> 00:17:55 You can do different things to it.
00:17:56 --> 00:18:01 So it's satisfying, I think, as a song when you hear it out at the clubs and stuff.
00:18:01 --> 00:18:03 And then there's a nice build to it.
00:18:03 --> 00:18:07 There's a super heavy bass synth, but it builds really well into that.
00:18:08 --> 00:18:14 Again, you get kind of all these zipping synths and stuff in the bridge, and then you get some dramatic spoken lines as well.
00:18:14 --> 00:18:18 So I think just as a dance pop song...
00:18:19 --> 00:18:43 this one is a satisfying one for sure okay that's the word okay yeah you know you get like your grades and you're in school and it's like as for satisfactory i feel this way about this song like it's listen chris is giving me a look because i told him before we started recording that this song does not do much for me i get it y'all love it come for me i don't care i'm gonna stick by my guns um this one's okay for me um
00:18:44 --> 00:18:45 I like the verses.
00:18:46 --> 00:18:49 I like the way it kind of just da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
00:18:49 --> 00:18:50 It's cool.
00:18:51 --> 00:18:53 And then the sustained notes in the chorus.
00:18:53 --> 00:18:53 I don't know.
00:18:54 --> 00:18:55 It just doesn't do much for me.
00:18:55 --> 00:18:57 I feel like it's just very by the numbers.
00:18:57 --> 00:18:57 Like it's a pop song.
00:18:58 --> 00:19:00 It's not dislikable, really.
00:19:00 --> 00:19:01 It's like, for me, it's like Beyonce's Cuff It.
00:19:01 --> 00:19:06 And it's not, and that's not the best song on Renaissance by no means.
00:19:06 --> 00:19:35 right so for me i just feel that way like if you like it go ahead you do have taste if i don't like it i also have taste but i just don't have a taste for this um i would say that i prefer her performing it you know what i'm saying i i would prefer watching her on screen with all that crazy green they loved green screen on this woman it's like chroma keith her whole life okay like they love it on her um like she looks great she's performing she has these giant scissors where she cuts off only a little tip of her hair like i just i think the whole thing yeah i know what
00:19:36 --> 00:19:39 She said, I'm going to get the biggest stuff I know.
00:19:39 --> 00:19:41 A little bit off.
00:19:41 --> 00:19:43 I said, girl, go on.
00:19:43 --> 00:19:44 You go on.
00:19:45 --> 00:19:49 But yeah, I think performance-wise, especially the dance performance, she eats it up.
00:19:49 --> 00:19:50 It's fun to watch a performance.
00:19:51 --> 00:19:52 But I can't say this song is like,
00:19:53 --> 00:20:20 now for me it's okay it's not a bad song i think it's just agreeable and satisfactory as a pop song for me lyric wise i do appreciate that it's a little less horny listen ain't nothing i'm being turned on y'all you can turn on the light i mean we'll get more of that as we go through oh yeah that's what i'm saying i have no problem with it but it is it is nice to kind of get that little break right between before we get that full onslaught of like slapping me and butter and lick me you know it's like it's good yeah
00:20:21 --> 00:20:41 no lyrics said that but yeah i think overall i like the whole package of the song more than i care for the song itself and that's like i want to come from me in the comments it's okay i will sleep at night yeah i do enjoy the music video i don't fully get the concept but the shots of her like with all the you know with and i begin to wonder with different languages kind of circling around her
00:20:42 --> 00:20:44 She's crawling through an air vent.
00:20:44 --> 00:20:44 Yes.
00:20:44 --> 00:20:45 Very sexily.
00:20:46 --> 00:20:46 Come on, Tomb Raider.
00:20:47 --> 00:20:53 She went from the bob in, put the needle on it, to now a really, like a just very long hair extensions.
00:20:54 --> 00:20:55 Yes, the wig.
00:20:55 --> 00:20:58 Yes, I'm assuming she was supposed to cut off more of it.
00:20:59 --> 00:21:01 And maybe she did, but they just didn't show it.
00:21:01 --> 00:21:02 She's like, oh.
00:21:03 --> 00:21:04 At the ends.
00:21:04 --> 00:21:07 That's a little trim.
00:21:07 --> 00:21:08 Yeah, with the performances.
00:21:08 --> 00:21:12 So she did sing it live at a few of the ones that I watched, atop the pots and stuff.
00:21:14 --> 00:21:20 And I think the choreo with the, you know, the sign language inspired kind of situation was cute.
00:21:20 --> 00:21:21 Yes.
00:21:21 --> 00:21:22 The thumbs.
00:21:22 --> 00:21:28 Yeah, and again, though, the actual choreo, like when she lip syncs it and joins the dancers, it is actually like...
00:21:29 --> 00:21:31 It's actually pretty difficult.
00:21:31 --> 00:21:32 Yeah, it's a lot.
00:21:32 --> 00:21:34 They are doing a lot.
00:21:34 --> 00:21:35 They are.
00:21:37 --> 00:22:04 I'm impressed like I said I think like I would be like oh Kylie's a terrible dancer but like her sister like she hits eight counts I'm joking around with the whole like sibling thing like oh yeah baby sister but no like you can look at this and be like if you didn't know who she was she's doing a lot so shout out to her like actually like kind of having that passion especially after what happened with the past albums and being like I feel good about this you know so regardless of how I feel about the tracks y'all made it y'all made it big and it's still one of her biggest songs so
00:22:05 --> 00:22:32 so how low is your rating it's not that low it's not that late i'll give it an eight it's not you always do this okay it's okay yeah no no y'all it is more than okay no if you guys are new to the show i said a lot more severe than what my scores are and then if i throw in jokes on top of that it sounds like i really hate it so you know but yeah no i can appreciate what it is like okay like secretly hung up i don't think it's madonna's best song but everyone loves it right
00:22:32 --> 00:22:58 whatever i think of it a good score because i can appreciate it but isn't my favorite madonna's well no i don't think it's anyone's favorite madonna song but for that era it's pretty iconic yes exactly see that's what my score reflected okay yeah i really like this one i will get a 9.5 nice okay okay next is hey so what done by julian gingle berry stone and hannah robinson
00:23:04 --> 00:23:05 I love that last name, Gingle.
00:23:07 --> 00:23:10 So for me, this song resonates a little bit more than the previous track.
00:23:11 --> 00:23:11 Okay.
00:23:11 --> 00:23:12 And I think it's the production.
00:23:12 --> 00:23:14 I know what I like.
00:23:15 --> 00:23:15 Bit funkier.
00:23:16 --> 00:23:17 Yes, I like funk.
00:23:17 --> 00:23:18 Y'all, I like it.
00:23:20 --> 00:23:22 The shivers creeping up inside my soul.
00:23:22 --> 00:23:24 Like the harmonies in that pre-hook, I just think about it all the time.
00:23:24 --> 00:23:26 The pre-hooks in this album.
00:23:26 --> 00:23:29 have been some of my favorite I've heard in a really long time.
00:23:29 --> 00:23:30 They're short.
00:23:30 --> 00:23:31 And if they're not short, they're a little bit longer.
00:23:31 --> 00:23:34 There's still harmonies there that make it feel a little bit more thicker.
00:23:35 --> 00:23:40 Like this song had both me and our social media editor, like dancing when we were driving together.
00:23:40 --> 00:23:41 Nice.
00:23:41 --> 00:23:43 This one has groove and a dope baseline.
00:23:43 --> 00:23:44 And like,
00:23:44 --> 00:23:46 I have a note here at the BGV.
00:23:46 --> 00:23:48 So far on this album have been juicy and just right.
00:23:48 --> 00:23:49 Yeah.
00:23:49 --> 00:23:53 It makes the song feel fuller and adds textures alongside the wonky production.
00:23:54 --> 00:23:57 So I think using her voice as almost like a pad.
00:23:58 --> 00:24:24 um like a you guys see like a pad on like a little a little keyboard thing yeah so yeah that's what it sounds like it's adding to the production it makes the song again feel beefier i will say at certain points it does sound a little murky like with the mix at certain points but the song is still really fun um the bridge is a moment or maybe could have been a moment it's a bit of a tease in terms of where it goes but we still have so many tracks ahead so it's it's okay i'll let it go i'll let it go but yeah this had
00:24:25 --> 00:24:27 the right kind of like oomph that I wanted.
00:24:28 --> 00:24:28 Yes.
00:24:28 --> 00:24:31 Yeah, we're now getting a bit brighter, a bit funkier here for sure.
00:24:32 --> 00:24:34 I like the electric guitar riffs in here.
00:24:34 --> 00:24:37 And you still have that kind of whomping of the bass.
00:24:37 --> 00:24:37 Oh my god, yes.
00:24:39 --> 00:24:40 And the zipping around.
00:24:40 --> 00:24:42 The zipping alien sounds are all over this album.
00:24:42 --> 00:24:47 It's like those are the two main things that tie all the production together.
00:24:47 --> 00:24:48 Yes.
00:24:48 --> 00:24:51 Yeah, this chorus is fun to sing along to.
00:24:51 --> 00:24:52 And there's a confidence to it.
00:24:52 --> 00:24:54 Hey, so what do I do?
00:24:54 --> 00:24:55 Like, it's just like fun.
00:24:56 --> 00:24:57 Yes.
00:24:57 --> 00:24:58 And it just sounds like it was fun to record, too.
00:24:58 --> 00:25:00 Like, you mentioned all the background vocals and stuff.
00:25:00 --> 00:25:03 All these little albums and little vocal moments all throughout.
00:25:03 --> 00:25:05 That just sounded like she was just having fun in the studio.
00:25:06 --> 00:25:06 Yes, absolutely.
00:25:06 --> 00:25:07 You know?
00:25:07 --> 00:25:09 So I wish there was a performance or something of this.
00:25:09 --> 00:25:11 It's a shame she didn't tour this album.
00:25:12 --> 00:25:16 Like, when I was listening to this, I was like, oh my gosh, there's so much you could do visually with this album, you know?
00:25:16 --> 00:25:18 Oh my gosh.
00:25:18 --> 00:25:20 But of course, the label had all those, you know, financial issues.
00:25:20 --> 00:25:22 So, oof.
00:25:22 --> 00:25:22 Ah!
00:25:23 --> 00:25:24 Oh, don't get me started, y'all.
00:25:24 --> 00:25:26 I hate when I'm a good artist.
00:25:26 --> 00:25:27 Like, oh, it's not your fault.
00:25:27 --> 00:25:28 It's not your fault.
00:25:28 --> 00:25:30 That was what happened with Mystique, right?
00:25:30 --> 00:25:31 We haven't done a Mystique episode.
00:25:31 --> 00:25:31 We need to.
00:25:31 --> 00:25:32 Oh, my God.
00:25:32 --> 00:25:32 Oh, yeah.
00:25:32 --> 00:25:34 But yeah, labels.
00:25:34 --> 00:25:34 Get it together, y'all.
00:25:37 --> 00:25:39 So what's your score for this one?
00:25:39 --> 00:25:41 Because I guess I liked one a little bit more than the previous show.
00:25:41 --> 00:25:42 Okay, I will give it an 8.5.
00:25:43 --> 00:25:44 And this is my 8.5.
00:25:44 --> 00:25:45 So slightly, slightly better.
00:25:45 --> 00:25:45 Okay.
00:25:48 --> 00:25:49 Up next is For the Record.
00:25:49 --> 00:25:52 This was done by Danny Minogue, Henry Corpy, Black Cell, and Karen Poole.
00:25:52 --> 00:25:53 Hello, Ms. Poole.
00:25:53 --> 00:25:54 Y'all.
00:25:55 --> 00:25:57 If y'all follow her, get her on our show.
00:25:58 --> 00:25:59 We need help.
00:25:59 --> 00:26:02 She has written some of our favorite songs.
00:26:02 --> 00:26:03 Yeah, just got to go.
00:26:04 --> 00:26:05 What's going on in your brain?
00:26:05 --> 00:26:05 How do you?
00:26:06 --> 00:26:07 And they don't sound like crap.
00:26:07 --> 00:26:08 Like, how do you do it?
00:26:08 --> 00:26:09 It's all good.
00:26:09 --> 00:26:14 Like... Just for the record, I did it.
00:26:17 --> 00:26:21 Okay, so for the record, I will say the sequencing for this album is really good.
00:26:21 --> 00:26:22 Yeah.
00:26:22 --> 00:26:27 Like, every song, like, the vibe changes just enough, you know?
00:26:27 --> 00:26:29 So each song does stand on its own.
00:26:29 --> 00:26:31 I will say it gets a little fillery.
00:26:31 --> 00:26:32 Spoiler alert.
00:26:33 --> 00:26:36 It does get a little fillery as we move on a little bit.
00:26:36 --> 00:26:39 But this kind of first kind of ride, it's a really smooth ride.
00:26:40 --> 00:26:43 Because now we've kept the funk of the last song, but it's...
00:26:44 --> 00:26:45 very, very bright.
00:26:45 --> 00:26:47 Like, I think this is the most super, super pop, pop, pop moment.
00:26:47 --> 00:26:48 Yes.
00:26:48 --> 00:26:49 On this album.
00:26:49 --> 00:26:51 Yes.
00:26:51 --> 00:26:53 And, you know, we started off so, like, cool and slinky.
00:26:53 --> 00:26:55 So they did a good job with that for sure.
00:26:55 --> 00:26:55 Mm-hmm.
00:26:57 --> 00:27:00 Yeah, I think this one's cute.
00:27:00 --> 00:27:05 Like, I think the whole hook of it, just for the record, I dig you.
00:27:05 --> 00:27:06 Like, it's cute.
00:27:06 --> 00:27:11 It's a little juvenile, I will say, but it's cute.
00:27:11 --> 00:27:16 And even in her execution, she kind of puts on a bit more of that nasality as well to kind of emphasize that.
00:27:16 --> 00:27:20 So I appreciate this on the album because I think it's good to have something a little lighter.
00:27:21 --> 00:27:21 Yes.
00:27:22 --> 00:27:22 Yeah.
00:27:23 --> 00:27:23 For sure.
00:27:23 --> 00:27:24 That's so funny.
00:27:24 --> 00:27:27 I was, it was, it was kind of reminding me of like Tina Marie, but bubblegum.
00:27:28 --> 00:27:38 Cause I mean, like if you know, lover girl, she's like, she's saying a bunch of like cliche lines and she admits, she admits that like she said, everything I'm saying is really crap, but that does not deny how I feel for you.
00:27:38 --> 00:27:42 And I think because Tina is just making soul funk music, it was a lot cooler.
00:27:42 --> 00:27:42 Yeah.
00:27:43 --> 00:27:45 I like the bright stuff.
00:27:45 --> 00:27:48 Again, if you're new here, I have very specific taste.
00:27:48 --> 00:27:52 And once you realize what the trend is, it's like, oh, you might be able to figure out my score.
00:27:52 --> 00:27:56 But yeah, this song sounds like Fruittiger Arrow at a disco.
00:27:57 --> 00:27:59 It's buoyant and digital.
00:28:00 --> 00:28:03 I love the production for this one, for sure.
00:28:03 --> 00:28:06 Like, don't let a K-pop girl group hear this song.
00:28:06 --> 00:28:09 Like, is this right in line for like something that they would grab?
00:28:11 --> 00:28:11 Yes.
00:28:11 --> 00:28:15 Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, that's right.
00:28:15 --> 00:28:16 Na, na, na, na.
00:28:16 --> 00:28:16 Oh my gosh.
00:28:17 --> 00:28:17 You're right.
00:28:17 --> 00:28:19 Especially if it's an SM song.
00:28:19 --> 00:28:21 Like think Party by Girls' Generation.
00:28:21 --> 00:28:21 Totally.
00:28:21 --> 00:28:25 Or like, you know, Red Flavor by Red Velvet.
00:28:25 --> 00:28:26 So SM would love this.
00:28:26 --> 00:28:30 But yeah, we're getting some projection in the vocals.
00:28:30 --> 00:28:31 This is, I think, the most open song.
00:28:32 --> 00:28:33 I would say she's singing.
00:28:33 --> 00:28:35 It's like not super tight, soft palate.
00:28:35 --> 00:28:37 So if I sing like this, it's very tight, soft palate.
00:28:37 --> 00:28:39 If I relax, it sounds like this, right?
00:28:39 --> 00:28:39 But she's belting a little bit more.
00:28:40 --> 00:28:41 The lyrics are chased.
00:28:41 --> 00:28:44 She has a good voice for pop, a super crystal clear.
00:28:44 --> 00:28:52 And like I said, Kylie is a little bit more in her nose after listening now, especially after watching 100 Degrees, that performance at one of those talent shows.
00:28:52 --> 00:28:52 Yeah, yeah.
00:28:52 --> 00:28:54 Yeah, I was like, wow, I can hear it.
00:28:54 --> 00:28:55 It's cool.
00:28:56 --> 00:29:00 But yeah, I think the music automated for that fall away moment in the bridge was super cute.
00:29:00 --> 00:29:03 I do, however, wish that the melody would have changed.
00:29:03 --> 00:29:04 Just switch it up a little bit there.
00:29:04 --> 00:29:06 That's my only huge complaint.
00:29:06 --> 00:29:08 And I have a note that says it doesn't sound too childish.
00:29:08 --> 00:29:08 Oh!
00:29:10 --> 00:29:11 Probably the opposite.
00:29:11 --> 00:29:12 But yeah, it's cute.
00:29:12 --> 00:29:16 And how's this flirty kind of energy that I feel that Sabrina Carpenter would play with?
00:29:16 --> 00:29:22 Like, this is a song that she would, if she wanted a little extra, like, she was really trying to reheat her own nachos with espresso.
00:29:22 --> 00:29:26 This would be kind of, I dig you.
00:29:26 --> 00:29:26 It's full of the record.
00:29:26 --> 00:29:30 It's full of that innuendo, those cheesy kind of like, what record?
00:29:30 --> 00:29:30 You know?
00:29:31 --> 00:29:32 Like, I think she would sing something like this.
00:29:32 --> 00:29:35 It'd be like a cut on the album as well.
00:29:35 --> 00:29:36 So yeah, I like this one.
00:29:36 --> 00:29:38 It's right up my alley.
00:29:38 --> 00:29:38 There you go.
00:29:39 --> 00:29:39 Yeah.
00:29:39 --> 00:29:40 Nice.
00:29:40 --> 00:29:40 So what do you rate it?
00:29:42 --> 00:29:45 Because of the bridge being like not different, I give it an eight.
00:29:45 --> 00:29:46 It's almost an 8.5 for me.
00:29:46 --> 00:29:48 But an eight, I feel like it feels good in my soul.
00:29:48 --> 00:29:49 Okay.
00:29:49 --> 00:29:50 I will do 7.5.
00:29:51 --> 00:29:52 How dare you?
00:29:52 --> 00:29:52 I'm sorry.
00:29:52 --> 00:29:54 I'm sorry.
00:29:54 --> 00:29:59 Next is Mighty Fine, done by Gil Kang, Liz Winston-Lee, Seku Bunch.
00:30:00 --> 00:30:03 And sample credits to Tom Brown, Tony Smith, and Dave Grusin.
00:30:03 --> 00:30:08 And that's because it samples Thighs High, Rip Your Hips and Move by Tom Brown.
00:30:08 --> 00:30:10 This is the man that's creeping up behind y'all.
00:30:12 --> 00:30:13 So Danny did not co-write this one.
00:30:14 --> 00:30:15 One of the rare ones on this album.
00:30:15 --> 00:30:16 Yeah.
00:30:16 --> 00:30:24 I mean, shout out to her for even writing, like, on this and being so...
00:30:26 --> 00:30:27 sure about how she wants to sound.
00:30:27 --> 00:30:28 Yeah.
00:30:28 --> 00:30:29 Yeah.
00:30:29 --> 00:30:35 This song sounds like it was taken right out of Parliament slash psychedelics, sorry, Parliament or Funkadelic's playbook.
00:30:35 --> 00:30:40 I mean, granted, Tom Brown's track was released in 1981, but recording happened before the 80s rolled around, y'all.
00:30:41 --> 00:30:41 I could tell.
00:30:42 --> 00:30:43 Especially listening to Tom Brown's track.
00:30:43 --> 00:30:44 I was like, oh, this sounds like
00:30:45 --> 00:31:05 parliament george clinton later on by himself um this one is a highlight for me in terms of track on the record because of the influences um it's not amazing but i do look forward to it on the album because of how it sounds like it really does remind me of like have you heard one nation under a groove that title is familiar but i can't sing it back to you right now
00:31:05 --> 00:31:06 No worries.
00:31:06 --> 00:31:08 It's one of those weird, funky little tracks.
00:31:08 --> 00:31:18 Like, I think the 70s funk, it doesn't mean Parliament and Funkadelic, it was like weird instrumentation, super funky.
00:31:19 --> 00:31:20 It was like Afrofuturism.
00:31:21 --> 00:31:23 And like the way they were singing, it was like really chill.
00:31:23 --> 00:31:23 Not yet.
00:31:23 --> 00:31:28 Like no one was giving like proper melody on top of the instrumentation, but it worked.
00:31:30 --> 00:31:34 But I think the mix on the vocals for me, even though the melody is a little like...
00:31:34 --> 00:31:35 okay, that's a little different.
00:31:36 --> 00:31:37 I'm okay with some of the cadences.
00:31:38 --> 00:31:46 I think the mix on the vocals doesn't make the most sense because it almost feels super funky and it's not mixed well enough to feel warm enough to sit in the music.
00:31:47 --> 00:31:48 Even though it's electronic, it's funky.
00:31:48 --> 00:31:49 It's so weird.
00:31:50 --> 00:31:51 But something about it, I was like, I don't know if I like
00:31:53 --> 00:32:15 it or is it the way she's delivering the notes i'm like no it's not that i couldn't like pinpoint it exactly but something was a little like for me um funget mighty fine is fun because it's giving back to that whole like 70s sling like oh she's fine she's a foxy lady you know so i love that um and also this track itself is kind of giving a call back to like american like black american tracks like the nonsensical gibberish
00:32:16 --> 00:32:23 Like Betcha By Golly Wow, even though it was a cover that Betcha By Golly Wow or like Mama Say Mama Samma Makusa.
00:32:23 --> 00:32:23 What the heck?
00:32:24 --> 00:32:24 Right.
00:32:24 --> 00:32:25 Sometimes it does have meaning.
00:32:26 --> 00:32:28 And sometimes it's just like, girl, what is that?
00:32:28 --> 00:32:29 Is that an onomatopoeia?
00:32:29 --> 00:32:30 Like, I love random phrases.
00:32:31 --> 00:32:31 Yeah.
00:32:31 --> 00:32:32 Yeah.
00:32:32 --> 00:32:33 Zippity Day is great.
00:32:34 --> 00:32:35 Yeah.
00:32:35 --> 00:32:38 So I was looking at like old reviews and stuff of this album.
00:32:38 --> 00:32:39 This was a very divisive one.
00:32:39 --> 00:32:40 People hated it.
00:32:40 --> 00:32:41 Yeah.
00:32:41 --> 00:32:42 What is wrong with y'all?
00:32:43 --> 00:32:45 Okay, so it did take me a second.
00:32:45 --> 00:32:50 I think the first time I heard it, I was kind of like, yeah, the melody is just kind of weird.
00:32:51 --> 00:32:57 And I couldn't really get my mind around it.
00:32:57 --> 00:33:01 If you think about just the production by itself, it's kind of similar to what we've been hearing, right?
00:33:01 --> 00:33:02 It's a powerful dance beat.
00:33:02 --> 00:33:04 There's a funkiness to it.
00:33:04 --> 00:33:08 There's more of that whomping bass and the alien kind of zippy synths.
00:33:08 --> 00:33:25 the galactic battle right i almost feel like the production like the track is too energetic for the melody and like the lyrics maybe that's what it was like i almost wish they went the other part of the brief and went for more atmospheric
00:33:27 --> 00:33:39 I think if they slowed it down a little bit and then it made it a bit more slinky, and then you can emphasize the infatuation and just put a tinge of just darkness to the whole thing.
00:33:39 --> 00:33:40 Okay.
00:33:40 --> 00:33:43 Like, you know how it kind of pulls back before the final chorus?
00:33:43 --> 00:33:43 Yeah.
00:33:44 --> 00:33:47 And you just kind of get that bass beat thumping before it kind of kicks back in.
00:33:48 --> 00:33:53 I think that as kind of what the majority of the song sounded like would have actually worked better.
00:33:54 --> 00:33:54 That makes sense.
00:33:54 --> 00:33:54 Yeah.
00:33:55 --> 00:33:55 Yeah.
00:33:56 --> 00:33:57 That makes sense.
00:33:57 --> 00:33:58 Because like, yeah.
00:33:59 --> 00:34:05 Like the original part of the, like the first part of the brief that you said was she wanted this album to sound like remixes of pop songs, right?
00:34:06 --> 00:34:06 Yeah.
00:34:06 --> 00:34:06 Yeah.
00:34:07 --> 00:34:09 I almost feel like this is that.
00:34:10 --> 00:34:11 But then the other half of the brief was atmospheric.
00:34:11 --> 00:34:14 So it's like... Where's the atmosphere, girl?
00:34:14 --> 00:34:15 Yeah, give us that.
00:34:15 --> 00:34:18 And then you can make another remix that sounds like this.
00:34:18 --> 00:34:18 I don't know.
00:34:18 --> 00:34:20 It's just like... No, that's valid.
00:34:20 --> 00:34:22 It doesn't make sense to me in this form.
00:34:23 --> 00:34:24 Oh, okay.
00:34:24 --> 00:34:25 Maybe that's what it is.
00:34:25 --> 00:34:28 Sometimes I wish we could talk to each other as we're listening to these albums.
00:34:28 --> 00:34:29 Because I'm like, how do you feel about this?
00:34:29 --> 00:34:31 And we kind of have our notes just sitting there.
00:34:32 --> 00:34:32 Oh, interesting.
00:34:32 --> 00:34:34 And I also wish I had time to just make my own remix.
00:34:35 --> 00:34:35 Yeah.
00:34:36 --> 00:34:58 so i could just be like i want to like this i want to like this but yeah no even if you listen to like the like one h undergrude is a good example of like this weird like atmospheric singing and like one lead vocal just kind of carrying it and it's like multi yeah you yeah i think you would okay i get it oh i might leave it i might look i still like this song
00:34:59 --> 00:34:59 Yeah.
00:34:59 --> 00:35:04 To be fair, though, I appreciate the experimentation because I think if the whole thing sounded super safe.
00:35:05 --> 00:35:05 Yeah.
00:35:05 --> 00:35:08 And just like, oh, this is like the dance pop of the time.
00:35:08 --> 00:35:09 And she just kind of did that.
00:35:09 --> 00:35:11 I would not love that.
00:35:11 --> 00:35:13 So I'm glad there are some of these kookier songs on here.
00:35:14 --> 00:35:15 Oh, that word cookie.
00:35:16 --> 00:35:17 Oh, you know.
00:35:17 --> 00:35:18 I like that word.
00:35:18 --> 00:35:18 Yeah.
00:35:18 --> 00:35:19 So I'll give it a seven.
00:35:20 --> 00:35:20 Okay.
00:35:20 --> 00:35:24 I, unlike the critics of that time, y'all have no fucking taste.
00:35:25 --> 00:35:28 I think I want to keep my score.
00:35:28 --> 00:35:33 I feel like this range of tracks is kind of consistent for me.
00:35:34 --> 00:35:34 I'll give this one an eight.
00:35:34 --> 00:35:35 I like this one.
00:35:36 --> 00:35:36 Okay.
00:35:36 --> 00:35:36 I do.
00:35:37 --> 00:35:42 Up next is On The Loop, and this is done by Bruno Alexandre, Camille Chouillard,
00:35:43 --> 00:36:07 danny minogue matthew jolly and terry ronald and this song was born in the sessions with french indie rock band namo and danny mentioned that the recording sessions had her just sitting in a bedroom at the end of a bed with a microphone with a cable going under the door and they're all just sitting outside the living room that is very strange was she like intimidated by them like she wanted like an intimate like by herself moment what's up no i think they just didn't have a real studio
00:36:08 --> 00:36:09 Oh, okay.
00:36:09 --> 00:36:09 That makes sense.
00:36:09 --> 00:36:12 As soon as I said it, the answer came to me like in a jolt.
00:36:12 --> 00:36:15 And I was like, girl, you didn't ask the dumbest question and he just answered.
00:36:22 --> 00:36:22 Oh, man.
00:36:22 --> 00:36:28 I mean, going back to what I was just saying, I love that they reached out to this random indie rock band to work on this album.
00:36:29 --> 00:36:29 For sure.
00:36:29 --> 00:36:32 And they were French, so I'm so sorry about the last name pronunciation.
00:36:32 --> 00:36:32 I know Spanish.
00:36:32 --> 00:36:33 No, I think you did well.
00:36:33 --> 00:36:34 Right.
00:36:34 --> 00:36:34 People.
00:36:34 --> 00:36:34 Yeah.
00:36:34 --> 00:36:35 Yeah.
00:36:36 --> 00:36:37 Yeah, this one is fun.
00:36:37 --> 00:36:40 It's grown on me a lot as I've been listening to this album.
00:36:40 --> 00:36:44 I think the first time I heard it, kind of similar to the last one, I was kind of like, I don't fully get it.
00:36:44 --> 00:36:45 Oh, okay.
00:36:45 --> 00:36:47 Because I was kind of just like meh with the hook.
00:36:48 --> 00:36:48 Okay.
00:36:48 --> 00:36:52 But now that I've listened to it more, I kind of think it's fun.
00:36:52 --> 00:36:54 And there's like an urgency to the whole thing.
00:36:55 --> 00:37:09 that adds an interesting energy yeah and then of course you do get then now these rock sensibilities so then now you kind of get a sonics which appear you still get a funkiness there with the guitar riff but it's just a very different energy from what we've heard so far
00:37:10 --> 00:37:16 the build through the bridge and when it gets all distorted and weird as well as super fun.
00:37:16 --> 00:37:17 So yeah, this is cool.
00:37:17 --> 00:37:21 Like you can tell there was a lot of thought put into the build of the song and kind of the different elements in it.
00:37:21 --> 00:37:26 So it keeps my attention because there's always like little things that change or keep popping up in it.
00:37:26 --> 00:37:28 Yes, I think sonically it is very interesting.
00:37:28 --> 00:37:31 This whole album has moments of like, don't get used to this.
00:37:31 --> 00:37:32 We're changing it.
00:37:32 --> 00:37:34 So I do appreciate that effort there.
00:37:35 --> 00:37:36 Mon corps encore.
00:37:36 --> 00:37:36 I love that.
00:37:37 --> 00:37:38 My heart again.
00:37:39 --> 00:37:39 Do what again?
00:37:40 --> 00:37:40 Who knows?
00:37:41 --> 00:37:41 Whatever.
00:37:41 --> 00:37:43 On the loop, round and round, bring it back.
00:37:44 --> 00:37:45 We're not back.
00:37:45 --> 00:37:48 This is the kind of 80s synth that I really do love.
00:37:48 --> 00:37:51 Like, a lot of people like the whole Dua Lipa weekend stuff.
00:37:51 --> 00:37:57 Like, that whole 80s era of pop music wasn't fully explored because there's a funky 80s moment, okay?
00:37:57 --> 00:38:00 Like, I'm thinking Rick Jane for, like, simplicity, you know?
00:38:01 --> 00:38:20 Prince for simplicity just to kind of give y'all an idea because there's a bunch of other 80s R&B artists that were giving you like great dance records that no one really knows but the point is this reminds me very lightly very lightly of Prince's work with Apollonia and Vanity Six like it's giving that Minneapolis sound but electrified not Minneapolis light yeah
00:38:22 --> 00:38:48 like it was dipped in the waters of Lake Minnetonka just a little bit you know not soaked but a little dip um the bridge could have done with an actual attempt at a melodic change this is my second time saying that but it's okay I'll let it go um I did count and I also did hear like write some like reviews they're like the song is like okay and I'm like why it's just okay some people don't like on the loop and I can understand that a little bit like she does say on the loop a total 11 times but something about
00:38:49 --> 00:38:55 the way it's produced, like vocally, it does have different kind of vibes.
00:38:55 --> 00:38:59 Like you'll have her as a solo vocal, a lead vocal, and then you'll have harmonies on it.
00:38:59 --> 00:39:00 And then it does come around a lot.
00:39:01 --> 00:39:03 Sonically, this song is a little bit more abrasive.
00:39:04 --> 00:39:09 You know, like that was the note I did see with the critics kind of not feeling it.
00:39:09 --> 00:39:10 That was their reason.
00:39:10 --> 00:39:11 This is too much.
00:39:11 --> 00:39:11 And I'm like, why?
00:39:12 --> 00:39:13 Is it too much?
00:39:13 --> 00:39:16 Is it too much because it sounds like something else?
00:39:16 --> 00:39:20 Or because you wanted something that's not like electronic, you know, dance and robotic?
00:39:20 --> 00:39:24 It's like she needs a little bit of warmth because otherwise she is creating her sister's record.
00:39:24 --> 00:39:24 Mm-hmm.
00:39:24 --> 00:39:30 Like, this is the kind of stuff that you need on an album to make sure you don't sound like Kali Minogue Part 2.
00:39:31 --> 00:39:31 You know?
00:39:31 --> 00:39:32 Fever, the deluxe version.
00:39:32 --> 00:39:33 The neon nights of feet.
00:39:33 --> 00:39:34 You know?
00:39:34 --> 00:39:35 So I like this one.
00:39:35 --> 00:39:36 It's one of my favorites.
00:39:36 --> 00:39:40 Again, the middle part of this album, spoiler alert, I like.
00:39:41 --> 00:39:41 I like a lot.
00:39:42 --> 00:39:43 I mean, I like the album, period.
00:39:43 --> 00:39:46 But, like, the middle album, I remember repeating over and over again.
00:39:46 --> 00:39:46 Okay, nice.
00:39:47 --> 00:39:47 Yeah.
00:39:47 --> 00:39:48 I will give this an 8.5.
00:39:49 --> 00:39:50 I will match you.
00:39:50 --> 00:39:51 Okay.
00:39:51 --> 00:39:52 On the loop.
00:39:52 --> 00:39:52 Okay.
00:39:53 --> 00:39:56 So, we are now about halfway through the album.
00:39:57 --> 00:39:57 Yeah.
00:39:57 --> 00:39:58 Or the standard album.
00:39:58 --> 00:40:00 Because there are actually quite a few bonus tracks as well.
00:40:00 --> 00:40:05 But if you're enjoying the episode so far, you can follow us everywhere on social media at CCTV Pops.
00:40:05 --> 00:40:08 And if you want to hear us talk about those bonus tracks.

00:40:13 --> 00:40:18 And the ability to help pick future episode topics at patreon.com slash CCTV Pops.
00:40:19 --> 00:40:35 hey okay so let's keep moving along through this album the next one is push done by danny minogue ian masterson terry ronnell john goldberg and tim stall and this samples white horse by laid back which is to those writers john and tim
00:40:41 --> 00:40:43 Wow, not them sampling themselves.
00:40:43 --> 00:40:44 Amazing.
00:40:44 --> 00:40:45 I'm kind of here for that.
00:40:45 --> 00:40:46 No, I'm totally joking.
00:40:46 --> 00:40:46 I was being silly.
00:40:46 --> 00:40:46 What?
00:40:47 --> 00:40:49 Like, hey guys, we have this record.
00:40:49 --> 00:40:50 Okay.
00:40:50 --> 00:40:51 And we wrote it already.
00:40:52 --> 00:40:52 Okay.
00:40:52 --> 00:40:53 We want you to use it.
00:40:53 --> 00:40:54 Like, you know, like, how'd that go?
00:40:55 --> 00:41:01 Now, my interaction with the white horse varies because my mom knows the song because like she, the OG song.
00:41:02 --> 00:41:03 Yeah.
00:41:03 --> 00:41:03 We all know it.
00:41:10 --> 00:41:20 Now there is a version of this song, a sample that lives on in my life because my sister used to play the version I'm about to talk about.
00:41:20 --> 00:41:24 Like she used to, it went quadruple platinum in my sister's car.
00:41:24 --> 00:41:25 Okay.
00:41:25 --> 00:41:25 Her Chevy green,
00:41:26 --> 00:41:29 Malibu, alongside with How Many Licks by Lil' Kim.
00:41:29 --> 00:41:32 And the song is called Touch It by Monifa.
00:41:32 --> 00:41:33 And I've asked you before.
00:41:34 --> 00:41:37 Years ago, guys, we did Sugar Babes, and we did...
00:41:37 --> 00:41:37 It was Freak Like Me.
00:41:37 --> 00:41:44 And I was like, wait, they covered this kind of out of the blue-ass R&B track?
00:41:44 --> 00:41:46 Chris, had you heard of Monifa's Touch It?
00:41:46 --> 00:41:47 And you were like, I can't say I have.
00:41:48 --> 00:41:50 Monifa has used White Horse.
00:41:50 --> 00:41:53 So when I heard this song, I was like...
00:41:54 --> 00:41:55 Monifa came up before, Tatchita came up before.
00:41:55 --> 00:41:57 Okay.
00:41:57 --> 00:42:02 So I said, huh, I wonder if they were like, Monifa then did it already.
00:42:02 --> 00:42:03 Can we use it for, you know?
00:42:03 --> 00:42:04 Let's do it again.
00:42:04 --> 00:42:05 Yeah.
00:42:06 --> 00:42:07 And both are good.
00:42:07 --> 00:42:08 Can I tell you?
00:42:14 --> 00:42:14 Touch it.
00:42:14 --> 00:42:18 Touch it for the girls who be like, you know, they're Dommy Mommies.
00:42:18 --> 00:42:20 They're like, if you want to touch it, you better get on your knees.
00:42:20 --> 00:42:21 You bark like you want.
00:42:21 --> 00:42:22 You know what I'm saying?
00:42:22 --> 00:42:27 Push is a little bit more like, you know, production is so fun and funky and bouncy.
00:42:28 --> 00:42:31 It makes you forget that she's talking about a situation ship that sucks.
00:42:31 --> 00:42:33 But yeah, honestly, when I hear this song,
00:42:34 --> 00:42:37 especially in the beginning, how it comes up with the push.
00:42:37 --> 00:42:44 It makes me wish I could DJ because Benny Benassi, Satisfaction, Monifa, Danny on a club mix, honey.
00:42:44 --> 00:42:44 Oh.
00:42:45 --> 00:42:46 Y'all don't steal my idea.
00:42:47 --> 00:42:48 Or if you do, at least let me know you did it.
00:42:48 --> 00:42:50 Don't be acting like I didn't give you inspiration.
00:42:51 --> 00:42:52 The song is fun.
00:42:54 --> 00:42:55 And only sounds fun because of the production.
00:42:55 --> 00:42:57 Like White Horse is very bouncy.
00:42:59 --> 00:43:01 And it's very, it trots, for lack of a better word.
00:43:02 --> 00:43:03 But yeah, the song is fine.
00:43:03 --> 00:43:05 I can't say I love the melody of the chorus.
00:43:05 --> 00:43:08 I'm not like, this is the best chorus on this album.
00:43:09 --> 00:43:11 But for what it needs to do, it's good enough.
00:43:11 --> 00:43:13 So shout out to that big red button that we all have on our cell phones.
00:43:14 --> 00:43:14 Hang up, girl.
00:43:17 --> 00:43:17 Yes.
00:43:18 --> 00:43:18 Oh, man.
00:43:18 --> 00:43:20 Yeah, I think the lyrics in general are really fun.
00:43:21 --> 00:43:21 Yeah.
00:43:22 --> 00:43:27 I do love the phone starting the song and then it ending with like the hang up sound as well.
00:43:28 --> 00:43:28 Yes.
00:43:29 --> 00:43:30 Yeah, I think the way it's written is just good.
00:43:31 --> 00:43:35 Like that whole situation situation where you can't just, it's just like...
00:43:36 --> 00:43:39 You know it's a bad idea, but you still dial the number.
00:43:40 --> 00:43:43 Yeah, this has become one of my favorites on this album.
00:43:44 --> 00:43:46 Like, I enjoy the bounce to it, right?
00:43:46 --> 00:43:49 Like, White Horse is such a cool track.
00:43:49 --> 00:43:50 Yes.
00:43:50 --> 00:43:53 You know, like, the original kind of sounds like a video game a little bit.
00:43:53 --> 00:43:54 It does, yeah.
00:43:54 --> 00:43:59 So the way they've now turned it into, you know, like a pop song, and now I need to go listen to Touch It as well.
00:43:59 --> 00:44:00 It's neat.
00:44:00 --> 00:44:00 It's fun.
00:44:00 --> 00:44:00 It's fun.
00:44:01 --> 00:44:01 Yeah.
00:44:03 --> 00:44:05 Yeah, the melody, I like it.
00:44:05 --> 00:44:08 It's simple, but kind of similar to how Creep was.
00:44:08 --> 00:44:14 There's kind of this like sinister kind of ominous layer to the whole thing, which is just like kind of intriguing.
00:44:14 --> 00:44:17 And there is that lyric change in the final chorus as well.
00:44:17 --> 00:44:22 Like just a nice way to tell the story, just kind of keep your attention, just build the song in a creative way.
00:44:22 --> 00:44:26 So this is one that I looked forward to every time it came around on the album.
00:44:26 --> 00:44:27 Yeah.
00:44:27 --> 00:44:27 Word up.
00:44:28 --> 00:44:29 Let it win.
00:44:29 --> 00:44:29 So fun.
00:44:29 --> 00:44:30 Yeah.
00:44:30 --> 00:44:30 So, yes.
00:44:31 --> 00:44:32 I want to give it a nine.
00:44:32 --> 00:44:33 Mm.
00:44:33 --> 00:44:33 Yes.
00:44:33 --> 00:44:34 Me too.
00:44:34 --> 00:44:36 Do you really want to...
00:44:36 --> 00:44:38 If y'all know, please drop in the comments.
00:44:38 --> 00:44:39 Where were you when you first heard?
00:44:39 --> 00:44:41 Because I was with my sister's study Malibu.
00:44:41 --> 00:44:42 Do you...
00:44:42 --> 00:44:42 Being...
00:44:43 --> 00:45:07 scandalized i was like touch it how many licks all right y'all speaking of being scandalized we're moving on to another song called mystified and this is done by danny minogue ian masterson and terry renault and this was one of the first track completed for the album and became one of the origin points for the album's sound
00:45:12 --> 00:45:19 Yes, I find that very interesting that this was one of the first ones because it actually kind of is a bit of an outlier for me on this album.
00:45:19 --> 00:45:21 You know, I get that.
00:45:21 --> 00:45:32 I feel like this is like a lesser version of... Like production-wise, you know, again, you kind of get this kind of staccato synth 80s-ish kind of dance pop situation.
00:45:32 --> 00:45:36 But melodically, this song is just a little fillery for me.
00:45:37 --> 00:45:58 hmm like i don't skip it like i don't mind it when it's on yeah but compared to kind of everything else it's just not as memorable for me i do think the chorus is fun like i appreciate the sass in danny's voice mystified mystified you know you could tell she she's given it and then that little dirty man kind of hook it's fun um
00:45:59 --> 00:46:04 And then with the background vocals as well, there's, it's not just Danny, like it's other voices as well.
00:46:04 --> 00:46:05 So you get this kind of chorus.
00:46:05 --> 00:46:08 It sounds very full and there's, there's power to it.
00:46:08 --> 00:46:09 Yes.
00:46:09 --> 00:46:09 Yeah.
00:46:09 --> 00:46:12 For some reason, this is just one I tend to forget about on this album.
00:46:12 --> 00:46:13 I'm going to be honest.
00:46:13 --> 00:46:14 Yeah.
00:46:14 --> 00:46:15 Yeah.
00:46:15 --> 00:46:17 You know, I like the line, you know, lately you ain't been the same.
00:46:17 --> 00:46:18 That's usually the telltale sign.
00:46:18 --> 00:46:24 Like, you know, when the guy stops sending you good morning to us, cause that, I hate that that has become like the, the stand.
00:46:24 --> 00:46:25 He sent me good morning.
00:46:25 --> 00:46:26 Good night.
00:46:26 --> 00:46:26 That's okay.
00:46:27 --> 00:46:29 But then I was like, he stopped sending me good morning and good night.
00:46:29 --> 00:46:30 That's how girls know.
00:46:31 --> 00:46:32 Me, I'm like, no, I don't need a good morning.
00:46:32 --> 00:46:33 I don't need that.
00:46:34 --> 00:46:35 I need to see if you can actually, you know, keep talking.
00:46:35 --> 00:46:38 When you stop talking, period, then I know something's up.
00:46:38 --> 00:46:40 But yeah, but lately you ain't been the same.
00:46:40 --> 00:46:41 So that's a good morning.
00:46:41 --> 00:46:42 They stopped coming, you know.
00:46:42 --> 00:47:06 son has been a lying sack of poo that's what i'm getting from that so i do like that right out the gate it's like there's issues um but because this has such similar lyrics to the push track like hands are tied and such and there's a lover on the other line they use phone reference and push you know like this is kind of the sequel to it because i guess this is why he has been m.i.a now that i'm thinking about it maybe this song was necessary maybe we needed to know why
00:47:07 --> 00:47:32 the phone was hung up um but yeah i think this one is cool for what it is danny's delivery sounds properly peeved so she brought the right kind of attitude which i appreciate because sometimes with the with the popular voices it turns into a thing where it's like are you really mad are you really mad so she definitely needed to do on this one but i can't say i can sing it back to you right now yeah yeah and i've sung every song to you so i don't know but
00:47:33 --> 00:47:38 Yeah, I will say there are B-sides on this, or from this era that I would probably replace this song with.
00:47:39 --> 00:47:39 Ooh, yes.
00:47:40 --> 00:47:44 But there is a random TV performance of Mystified.
00:47:44 --> 00:47:45 Shout out.
00:47:45 --> 00:47:46 Mystified, Mystified.
00:47:48 --> 00:47:49 I mean, you can kind of tell.
00:47:49 --> 00:47:52 I mean, I don't know.
00:47:52 --> 00:47:54 It's just, it was a little thrown together.
00:47:55 --> 00:48:23 you know like it was kind of like it's like she was booked for something and they were like oh you're not gonna do the single and they were like what and then it was like oh I guess we're gonna do an album track your description is diabolical that's insane you know again it's just there's nothing that interesting about it I appreciate it because especially if she didn't get to tour it at least we got an outing for some other songs you know you think this would make the set list for the tour
00:48:25 --> 00:48:26 Would I put it on?
00:48:26 --> 00:48:29 Probably not.
00:48:30 --> 00:48:33 That being said, what's your score?
00:48:33 --> 00:48:34 So I was going to say, I hate that you guys are laughing.
00:48:35 --> 00:48:36 We're friends talking about music.
00:48:36 --> 00:48:37 Don't you laugh with your friends when you talk about music?
00:48:38 --> 00:48:39 Right.
00:48:40 --> 00:48:41 I will give it a 7.5.
00:48:41 --> 00:48:41 I get a 7.
00:48:41 --> 00:48:42 It's okay.
00:48:44 --> 00:48:53 Next is Don't Want to Lose This Feeling, done by Bruno Alexandre, Camille Chouillard, Danny Minogue, James Kari, Mathieu, Jolie, and Terry Ronald.
00:48:53 --> 00:49:00 And this was released as a single from the album in June 2003, hitting number five in the UK and number 22 in Australia.
00:49:00 --> 00:49:06 And it had a new single mix done by L. Stone and a mashup version of the song titled...
00:49:07 --> 00:49:11 Don't want to lose this groove was created, mashing the track up with Madonnas into the groove.
00:49:12 --> 00:49:19 So they were on the same label and Danny said that she ended up becoming the first artist ever granted a Madonna sample.
00:49:31 --> 00:49:47 record record-breaking iconic that's amazing yeah I mean Onward Madonna was so protective maybe she just liked it so maybe maybe there was never a beef between the Minogs and the Madonnas you know there wasn't yeah never she's a fan y'all crazy anyway
00:49:49 --> 00:49:52 This one, I will say, gave me the most Kylie.
00:49:52 --> 00:49:56 I have not said it this whole time, so I'm going to say it now.
00:49:56 --> 00:49:58 This one gave me the most Kylie.
00:49:58 --> 00:49:58 Yeah.
00:49:59 --> 00:50:00 Like, disco album.
00:50:01 --> 00:50:06 There's obviously other albums she's had that have the disco influence, but I think in terms of, like, for me...
00:50:07 --> 00:50:13 like how much I like it and like, it's like a, it's like an album track on disco or maybe tension.
00:50:13 --> 00:50:15 I get the disco thing.
00:50:15 --> 00:50:17 And a lot of you might disagree with me.
00:50:17 --> 00:50:21 And again, I'm okay with my hill being my resting place.
00:50:22 --> 00:50:48 this song is basic like it's not bad right it's likable the standard version does what it needs to do um like i i know where it plays chart wise i get that i understand okay you know who let the dogs out won a grammy like this song is safe it was built to be a pop chart darling and that is okay but for me i wasn't just like i wasn't blown away really um i think it's the same thing with um makes me wonder you know it's kind of just like okay
00:50:49 --> 00:50:50 Okay.
00:50:50 --> 00:50:53 The mashup is fun, clever, fun,
00:50:54 --> 00:51:05 And also, if it's with the 80s soundscape that's on this album, for me, it's like, I get the disco thing, but if we're doing the 80s, we're just taking a bunch of genres that are derivative from that time period, why not stick with it?
00:51:05 --> 00:51:08 So I think the Madonna mashup was fun.
00:51:08 --> 00:51:09 It gave the track some pep.
00:51:10 --> 00:51:11 For me, it's the superior version.
00:51:11 --> 00:51:13 I'm okay with being wrong if he disagrees, whatever.
00:51:14 --> 00:51:18 But Dani might not disagree, because she obviously asked for it.
00:51:18 --> 00:51:19 Obviously, he brags about getting the sample.
00:51:19 --> 00:51:20 So maybe I'm not wrong.
00:51:20 --> 00:51:45 but yeah i'm afraid i'm afraid like that this might be the better version especially around the bridge because it just it's fun there's guitar there and it's also shout out to the reverse effect on the vocals at the end um oh yeah you know like i just feel like the song i don't know why you guys liked it good for you again again because it was a safer track it was just easier to put out and then the video itself also was just we'll get to it but it wasn't giving
00:51:51 --> 00:51:52 No, I agree with you.
00:51:52 --> 00:52:02 I think having the mashup definitely takes it out from just being, this is kind of what I was alluding to, I think, before when I was, I'm glad the album wasn't all this.
00:52:02 --> 00:52:03 Yeah.
00:52:03 --> 00:52:06 You know, because, like, it is a bit faceless.
00:52:06 --> 00:52:07 Like, Atomic Kitten could sing this.
00:52:07 --> 00:52:08 Oh, yeah.
00:52:08 --> 00:52:13 Like, you know, I could name all those acts could sing this that were out at that time.
00:52:13 --> 00:52:13 Yeah.
00:52:13 --> 00:52:13 Yeah.
00:52:14 --> 00:52:40 like it's not very unique track however for a song that is that category it's good yeah yes right that's what it is yeah sense as a single choice if they did want to be a bit safer because i think the album did do well but it's not like she she wasn't like getting number ones though you know so i'm sure it was kind of like we do need to cater to what's happening right now so yeah let's do something a bit safer as a follow-up single here um
00:52:42 --> 00:52:45 I will say the whole, give me more whisper.
00:52:45 --> 00:52:49 I was like, oh my God, has someone matched this one up with Britney?
00:52:49 --> 00:52:50 Oh, should we do it?
00:52:50 --> 00:52:51 Should we learn how to DJ?
00:52:52 --> 00:52:53 Oh my gosh.
00:52:53 --> 00:52:54 That little whisper.
00:52:54 --> 00:52:56 I was like, ooh, is that the inspiration of give me more?
00:52:57 --> 00:52:57 Shout out Carrie Hilson.
00:52:57 --> 00:52:58 Maybe she heard it.
00:52:59 --> 00:52:59 Yeah.
00:53:00 --> 00:53:01 I enjoy the bridge with the build.
00:53:01 --> 00:53:03 There's some more vocalizations.
00:53:03 --> 00:53:05 We do get some kind of ad-libs and stuff at the end.
00:53:05 --> 00:53:08 So I think as a song, it's built nicely.
00:53:08 --> 00:53:09 Yeah.
00:53:09 --> 00:53:11 So yeah, I get it as a single.
00:53:11 --> 00:53:16 I agree with you that it's very safe and more faceless than the rest of the album.
00:53:18 --> 00:53:18 But I like it.
00:53:19 --> 00:53:19 still.
00:53:19 --> 00:53:20 Yes, that's what it is.
00:53:20 --> 00:53:23 Yeah, like I would not skip this, you know?
00:53:23 --> 00:53:31 Oh, I do want to shout out, actually, so for Neon Nights 20, they had a new remix commission for by Initial Talk.
00:53:31 --> 00:53:38 And Initial Talk has done some of my favorite remixes of some of these British acts, like that Cheryl remix of...
00:53:40 --> 00:53:41 Love Let Me Do It.
00:53:42 --> 00:53:48 There's a few other ones, Steps ones as well, where I actually prefer the initial talk remixes to the actual song.
00:53:48 --> 00:53:49 Oh wow, okay.
00:53:49 --> 00:53:51 So yeah, this new initial talk mix is really good.
00:53:51 --> 00:53:52 So shout out to them.
00:53:52 --> 00:53:53 Very, very good.
00:53:53 --> 00:53:54 Oh nice, nice, okay.
00:54:00 --> 00:54:02 If you guys have a version of the songs that you like, please let us know.
00:54:02 --> 00:54:05 Because I know a lot of these tracks have remixes.
00:54:05 --> 00:54:08 So if you have one that you would love for us to listen to, we would love to listen to it.
00:54:08 --> 00:54:09 Oh, yeah.
00:54:09 --> 00:54:10 Please recommend.
00:54:10 --> 00:54:12 Yeah, but yeah, the music video.
00:54:12 --> 00:54:15 So apparently it was actually very cold on this beach.
00:54:16 --> 00:54:18 On the beach where they're thrusting on the platform.
00:54:19 --> 00:54:21 Yeah, but you know, they did their best to still make it look kind of sweaty.
00:54:22 --> 00:54:23 Shout out to them girls, man.
00:54:25 --> 00:54:26 I hate dancing in the cold.
00:54:26 --> 00:54:30 It's like your body's like, it's hot, but you stand there and you're like, it's cold.
00:54:30 --> 00:54:31 It's not great.
00:54:31 --> 00:54:32 Cold beaches are never fun.
00:54:33 --> 00:54:34 Not at all.
00:54:34 --> 00:54:35 Not at all.
00:54:36 --> 00:54:36 Yeah.
00:54:36 --> 00:54:37 So what did you think?
00:54:37 --> 00:54:38 I mean, at least they were outside.
00:54:38 --> 00:54:39 You know, I think that was kind of one of the things.
00:54:40 --> 00:54:45 I think Dani was like, look, we just did the whole in-studio green screen thing for two songs.
00:54:45 --> 00:54:45 Yeah.
00:54:45 --> 00:54:47 Three songs would include Who Do You Love Now?
00:54:47 --> 00:54:47 Right.
00:54:47 --> 00:54:50 So she was like, put me outside for the next one.
00:54:50 --> 00:54:50 For real.
00:54:50 --> 00:54:52 It's like Korma Key Cages, you know.
00:54:55 --> 00:54:56 I do appreciate her being outside.
00:54:56 --> 00:54:59 But again, the video's effort was...
00:54:59 --> 00:55:23 reminds you of like what i said about the song being just okay enough and safe like she looked good like she's never not gonna look good like she was giving the guy did not deserve her whatever she and the girls were breaking it down like that floor choreography and the head thing and the oh i was like yes i like this it made me watch the video and then like the remix version with the remake but the mashup version of madonna had a little stuttered skips and stuff yes
00:55:26 --> 00:55:29 I enjoyed the stuttered and skip, and I watched both versions.
00:55:30 --> 00:55:31 So it was fun.
00:55:32 --> 00:55:32 It was cute.
00:55:32 --> 00:55:35 I wouldn't say I was blown away by any kind of visuals.
00:55:35 --> 00:55:37 But again, the thrusting on the ground, I remember that.
00:55:38 --> 00:55:38 Me too.
00:55:39 --> 00:55:39 Yes.
00:55:39 --> 00:55:40 Shout out to her.
00:55:40 --> 00:55:41 Yeah.
00:55:41 --> 00:55:42 And then live as well...
00:55:43 --> 00:55:45 She had a pretty good choreographer, honestly.
00:55:45 --> 00:55:50 It's giving, like, classic jazz funk, which is what I love, you know?
00:55:50 --> 00:55:51 So I'm here for it.
00:55:51 --> 00:55:55 And I love that the choreo for the Madonna mashup version was completely different.
00:55:56 --> 00:55:57 And she performed both.
00:55:57 --> 00:56:01 So that was really cool to watch, actually, that she kind of did both like that.
00:56:01 --> 00:56:02 Oh, yeah, yes.
00:56:02 --> 00:56:02 Yeah.
00:56:02 --> 00:56:02 Yeah.
00:56:03 --> 00:56:11 I will say, though, in the Madonna version, when she sings that one, there were some performances where she like does like a little headphone bit.
00:56:11 --> 00:56:16 But there were some moments where I feel like, I don't know, she kind of like throws it away.
00:56:16 --> 00:56:18 You know, like they didn't like plan that.
00:56:18 --> 00:56:21 Like there should have just been like a stand for it or something.
00:56:23 --> 00:56:25 That seems just a stand for it.
00:56:26 --> 00:56:27 You know what?
00:56:27 --> 00:56:27 Caution to the wind.
00:56:27 --> 00:56:30 I mean, maybe they're like a cheap little set.
00:56:31 --> 00:56:32 That's crazy.
00:56:33 --> 00:56:33 Oh, man.
00:56:33 --> 00:56:36 So, yeah, I appreciate the song for what it is.
00:56:36 --> 00:56:37 So I will give it a nine.
00:56:38 --> 00:56:39 I'll give this one an 8.5.
00:56:39 --> 00:56:39 Okay.
00:56:40 --> 00:56:41 Up next is, hang on, wait.
00:56:41 --> 00:56:44 I'm not going to pull out the vibrator, but you know.
00:56:44 --> 00:56:48 I was about to say, what are you about to, I was like, what are you about to see my face?
00:56:52 --> 00:56:53 Up next is bye, Mom, guys.
00:56:55 --> 00:56:56 You know what, guys?
00:56:56 --> 00:56:56 Actually, I was.
00:56:56 --> 00:56:59 I'm very, like, I'm into the gig, okay?
00:56:59 --> 00:57:01 Like, for Madonna, I put the sheet on my head.
00:57:01 --> 00:57:04 For sweat, I had, for Mel C's sweat, I had the sweatband.
00:57:05 --> 00:57:05 Like, vibe on.
00:57:06 --> 00:57:07 I was getting ready to grab a toy.
00:57:08 --> 00:57:13 Listen, so if any company wants to sponsor us, we're open to all of it.
00:57:13 --> 00:57:17 You know, he and I cover both, you know, full spectrum of different people.
00:57:17 --> 00:57:18 Okay.
00:57:18 --> 00:57:21 But yeah, this was done by Danny Minogue, Joaquin Bjorklund, a.k.a.
00:57:21 --> 00:57:24 Jack E. And Savon Koteca.
00:57:24 --> 00:57:25 Wow.
00:57:25 --> 00:57:27 Savon Koteca.
00:57:27 --> 00:57:28 He's been around for a minute.
00:57:28 --> 00:57:29 Yes.
00:57:29 --> 00:57:31 Shout out to him, man.
00:57:31 --> 00:57:32 He's working with the greats.
00:57:32 --> 00:57:34 He's working with people who are developing.
00:57:34 --> 00:57:34 Yeah.
00:57:35 --> 00:57:36 I eat One Direction.
00:57:37 --> 00:57:39 You know, we've done a couple of the One Direction episodes.
00:57:40 --> 00:57:41 So it's interesting.
00:57:41 --> 00:57:42 Like, he's completely different.
00:57:44 --> 00:57:45 Obviously.
00:57:45 --> 00:57:45 Well, I guess.
00:57:45 --> 00:57:47 Well, then he went on to do, like, Ariana, right?
00:57:47 --> 00:57:47 Yes.
00:57:48 --> 00:57:49 Because he did, like, Into You and, like, that stuff.
00:57:49 --> 00:57:51 So you kind of see the trajectory.
00:57:51 --> 00:57:52 That makes a little bit more sense, right?
00:57:52 --> 00:57:53 For sure.
00:57:53 --> 00:57:54 Yeah, trajectory there.
00:58:01 --> 00:58:05 Okay, so, well, I guess for Brittany, all she needed was a touch of her hand.
00:58:05 --> 00:58:09 But Dani, she needs the vibrations.
00:58:09 --> 00:58:10 Oh, my God, we love tools.
00:58:10 --> 00:58:12 Hello, Bill the Bobber.
00:58:13 --> 00:58:14 Yeah.
00:58:15 --> 00:58:20 I just love how they didn't even try with innuendo or anything for this.
00:58:20 --> 00:58:23 It was just like, we're just going to write a song about vibrators.
00:58:23 --> 00:58:23 Wow.
00:58:23 --> 00:58:25 I love it.
00:58:25 --> 00:58:26 Me too.
00:58:26 --> 00:58:28 Yeah, the song is fun.
00:58:28 --> 00:58:30 Like, it's very full production.
00:58:30 --> 00:58:31 There's a lot of layers.
00:58:31 --> 00:58:33 The melody is catchy.
00:58:34 --> 00:58:37 We get a rap in it, which she fully commits to.
00:58:37 --> 00:58:40 And she even did it live on a little TV show as well.
00:58:41 --> 00:58:42 Yeah, she did not commit to that one.
00:58:42 --> 00:58:44 I was like, girl, please.
00:58:44 --> 00:58:46 It was a little awkward, though.
00:58:46 --> 00:58:46 It was, yeah.
00:58:47 --> 00:58:47 Yeah.
00:58:47 --> 00:58:48 It felt like an audition.
00:58:48 --> 00:58:48 Not because of her.
00:58:48 --> 00:58:49 No, it felt like an audition.
00:58:49 --> 00:58:50 Just the situation was a little awkward.
00:58:50 --> 00:58:51 Yeah, acapella.
00:58:51 --> 00:58:52 Can you do the rap?
00:58:52 --> 00:58:52 Yeah.
00:58:53 --> 00:58:56 I'm on when she's got supernatural doing thing a normal man can do.
00:58:56 --> 00:58:57 So let me take you out and try you out.
00:58:58 --> 00:58:59 I'm in the mood.
00:58:59 --> 00:59:00 I think this is fun.
00:59:01 --> 00:59:02 I'm here for it.
00:59:02 --> 00:59:02 Yeah.
00:59:02 --> 00:59:04 I mean, wait, quick question.
00:59:04 --> 00:59:05 The voice in the beginning of the track.
00:59:06 --> 00:59:06 Who is that?
00:59:06 --> 00:59:08 Or what is that vocal effect?
00:59:08 --> 00:59:10 Because it sounds like one of those voice to text vocals on TikTok.
00:59:10 --> 00:59:13 You know, the voice that kind of sounds like it's literally you.
00:59:13 --> 00:59:15 Have you heard that voice to text sound?
00:59:15 --> 00:59:18 Like people use it for their dogs, maybe like to narrate with their dogs.
00:59:18 --> 00:59:20 Like that is what it sounded like.
00:59:21 --> 00:59:26 But yeah, I think the vocal effects on this album have been fun as well.
00:59:26 --> 00:59:27 Like some of the most fun.
00:59:28 --> 00:59:29 I love the lyrics.
00:59:30 --> 00:59:32 My little mini list is triple X batteries.
00:59:33 --> 00:59:35 Those don't exist, but we all know what it means.
00:59:36 --> 00:59:37 Vibraholic.
00:59:37 --> 00:59:40 As someone who's been single all her life, I understand.
00:59:40 --> 00:59:44 Number three, supernatural doing things that normal men can't do.
00:59:45 --> 00:59:50 As someone who just did Pilates and this woman had my legs shaking because someone else's son won't do it for me, I understand.
00:59:50 --> 00:59:53 So, all three of these lyrics, I appreciate.
00:59:53 --> 00:59:55 That being said, the rap moment.
00:59:55 --> 00:59:56 Uh-huh.
00:59:58 --> 00:59:58 It's fun.
00:59:59 --> 01:00:03 And the moment in the song that breaks up the monotony of singing, it is fresh and cute.
01:00:03 --> 01:00:05 Shout out to the rest of the vibraholics out here.
01:00:06 --> 01:00:09 Hashtag triple X batteries.
01:00:09 --> 01:00:10 Hashtag vibraholics.
01:00:10 --> 01:00:11 Hashtag hashtag.
01:00:12 --> 01:00:13 I'm joking.
01:00:13 --> 01:00:13 Love it.
01:00:14 --> 01:00:16 I read that list as sterile as possible.
01:00:16 --> 01:00:18 I couldn't say nothing about me.
01:00:18 --> 01:00:18 Okay.
01:00:18 --> 01:00:19 I know it sounds crazy.
01:00:20 --> 01:00:22 So which toy is going to sponsor us?
01:00:23 --> 01:00:23 Hello, Nancy.
01:00:23 --> 01:00:24 Our email is open.
01:00:24 --> 01:00:25 Hello, Nancy.
01:00:26 --> 01:00:26 Hello, Nancy.
01:00:26 --> 01:00:28 I love Helen because they have fruit shaped things.
01:00:28 --> 01:00:29 Balesa House.
01:00:29 --> 01:00:30 Please.
01:00:30 --> 01:00:31 I would love Balesa.
01:00:31 --> 01:00:32 Balesa is beautiful.
01:00:32 --> 01:00:35 Lalo, Lalo, whoever, Lalo.
01:00:36 --> 01:00:40 They're a little expensive, but they're like the Bentley Coops of the toys.
01:00:40 --> 01:00:44 I'll even take a little Apple Adam and Eve or Apple and Eve.
01:00:44 --> 01:00:44 One of the two.
01:00:44 --> 01:00:45 But hello.
01:00:45 --> 01:00:47 Like y'all hit us up.
01:00:48 --> 01:00:48 Like, please.
01:00:48 --> 01:00:51 I would sit here with the whole, I would use it as a microphone.
01:00:51 --> 01:00:52 You don't even have to ask me.
01:00:53 --> 01:00:53 I'll do it.
01:00:54 --> 01:00:54 I'll do it.
01:00:55 --> 01:00:56 I'm all for the wellness.
01:00:56 --> 01:00:57 So vibe on.
01:00:57 --> 01:00:58 V-O.
01:00:58 --> 01:00:59 Hang on, wait.
01:01:01 --> 01:01:02 Vibe on, y'all.
01:01:03 --> 01:01:04 Okay, so is this a 10 for you?
01:01:07 --> 01:01:08 I mean, yeah, maybe.
01:01:08 --> 01:01:10 But it's two O's together.
01:01:10 --> 01:01:11 An eight.
01:01:11 --> 01:01:13 I'll give us one an eight.
01:01:14 --> 01:01:15 I'll match with the eight.
01:01:17 --> 01:01:17 Okay.
01:01:17 --> 01:01:25 Next is A Piece of Time, done by Bruno Alexandre, Camille Chouillard, Danny Minogue, Mathieu Jolie, and Terry Ronald.
01:01:25 --> 01:01:28 So it's another one with that French indie group.
01:01:34 --> 01:01:34 Yeah.
01:01:35 --> 01:01:37 Shout out to them because now we have this icy vocal production.
01:01:37 --> 01:01:40 And I love that throughout this album, Dani has been this lover girl.
01:01:41 --> 01:01:42 She did the self-love before.
01:01:42 --> 01:01:45 And now, you know, we have this futuristic element, more futuristic element.
01:01:45 --> 01:01:48 Like it's always been here, but now it sounds like legit I'm a love bot.
01:01:50 --> 01:01:54 The second verse I do appreciate a lot because of the melody switch up.
01:01:54 --> 01:01:58 And she gets a little naughty, you know, gimme, gimme, piece of time.
01:01:58 --> 01:02:02 Gimme, dirty, dirty piece of, and I don't know what the beat could represent because what rhymes with I'm.
01:02:03 --> 01:02:05 Y'all tell me in the comments below.
01:02:05 --> 01:02:06 Baby, can you bear the truth?
01:02:06 --> 01:02:08 I want to come for you.
01:02:09 --> 01:02:10 And I was like, oh my goodness.
01:02:11 --> 01:02:12 Oh my God, so dirty.
01:02:12 --> 01:02:13 So, you know, I appreciate it.
01:02:15 --> 01:02:21 But then there's vocal effects that make it sound like the robot's either malfunctioning or need a little bit of a charge itself.
01:02:21 --> 01:02:23 So again, it's not just like, I'm a sleaze.
01:02:23 --> 01:02:26 It's like, I'm a sleaze 2.0.
01:02:26 --> 01:02:27 I'm here for it.
01:02:28 --> 01:02:30 The bridge gets a guitar solo that I love.
01:02:30 --> 01:02:31 Oh, yeah.
01:02:31 --> 01:02:34 It's a little abrasive, I would say, but it fits with the song.
01:02:34 --> 01:02:34 It works.
01:02:35 --> 01:02:36 You know, I appreciate it.
01:02:37 --> 01:02:38 I love this one.
01:02:39 --> 01:02:39 Oh, yeah.
01:02:39 --> 01:02:41 This is, I don't know what it is.
01:02:41 --> 01:02:45 And it's criminal because it's like one of the least streamed on Spotify, at least on this album.
01:02:45 --> 01:02:46 How dare you all.
01:02:47 --> 01:02:55 But I think they balanced the kind of robotic situation, the metallic kind of sound.
01:02:55 --> 01:02:55 Yeah.
01:02:56 --> 01:03:01 Really well with just the overall concept of the album, I think.
01:03:02 --> 01:03:02 And...
01:03:03 --> 01:03:06 Again, kind of similar to another song that this group of songwriters did.
01:03:06 --> 01:03:08 It just keeps my attention.
01:03:08 --> 01:03:09 It builds really well.
01:03:09 --> 01:03:12 There's constantly changes happening in the sonics.
01:03:12 --> 01:03:15 The second verse sounds completely different than the first verse.
01:03:16 --> 01:03:19 With kind of that weird situation there.
01:03:19 --> 01:03:21 And there's just nuances as well to how the melody changes.
01:03:21 --> 01:03:23 Where the spaces are.
01:03:24 --> 01:03:26 You mentioned that beep only happens once.
01:03:27 --> 01:03:28 You know what I mean?
01:03:29 --> 01:03:29 It's like...
01:03:30 --> 01:03:31 It's just well written.
01:03:31 --> 01:03:34 Like you can tell there's a lot of thought put into it.
01:03:34 --> 01:03:38 And then you even get that weird like off key ending as well.
01:03:38 --> 01:03:40 Like it just keeps you interested like the whole way through.
01:03:40 --> 01:03:45 So I just love it for the experimentation in it.
01:03:45 --> 01:03:50 And it's just something I will remember when I think of this album.
01:03:50 --> 01:03:50 Yeah.
01:03:51 --> 01:03:51 Hello.
01:03:52 --> 01:03:52 Okay.
01:03:52 --> 01:03:53 So what's your score?
01:03:53 --> 01:03:54 This is a 10 for me.
01:03:54 --> 01:03:55 I love it.
01:03:55 --> 01:03:55 Oh, nice.
01:03:56 --> 01:03:57 Okay, this one is a 9 for me.
01:03:58 --> 01:03:59 Up next is Who Do You Love Now?
01:04:00 --> 01:04:02 Riva featuring Danny Minogue.
01:04:03 --> 01:04:08 And this song started as an instrumental called Stringer, a Dutch club record that spread all throughout Europe.
01:04:09 --> 01:04:13 And as we noted in the intro, it became the catalyst for this entire album.
01:04:13 --> 01:04:14 And this song was released in November 2001.
01:04:14 --> 01:04:18 And the song hit number three in the UK and number 15 in the US.
01:04:18 --> 01:04:22 And Danny also recorded a French version called I'm Not Gonna Say It, Chris.
01:04:22 --> 01:04:23 Es que tu m'aime encore.
01:04:24 --> 01:04:28 And this was done by Gus Van Vlanderen, Horst Pullman, and Victoria Horn.
01:04:29 --> 01:04:30 And of course produced by Riva.
01:04:30 --> 01:04:31 Or Riva.
01:04:31 --> 01:04:31 Riva.
01:04:31 --> 01:04:33 Oh, maybe it's Riva.
01:04:33 --> 01:04:33 I'm sorry.
01:04:33 --> 01:04:35 I'll pronounce everything with that hard E because it's Spanish.
01:04:36 --> 01:04:37 Oh, yeah.
01:04:37 --> 01:04:37 Yeah.
01:04:43 --> 01:04:49 Yeah, I mean, this is that example of Euro dance pop, I think, that you were maybe referring to before.
01:04:49 --> 01:04:50 Yeah, I am.
01:04:50 --> 01:04:59 Like, very typical early 2000s Euro dance that is that kind of just unce unce, you know?
01:05:00 --> 01:05:02 But there's a ton of energy in it, for sure.
01:05:02 --> 01:05:03 It is atmospheric.
01:05:05 --> 01:05:07 And it, of course, has that kind of trance vibe.
01:05:07 --> 01:05:09 inspiration as well.
01:05:10 --> 01:05:15 Which, also, I was reading about the album, like the initial, initial sessions of the album, they were actually going for more of this trance
01:05:17 --> 01:05:45 thing yes and we'll actually mention that a bit more with the next song as well but you know it it definitely fits with that soundscape like it it i think of lasers like these big crowded you know rooms with disco balls and stuff um i think danny sounds good here like her belt is super strong you know she kind of falls into into the vibe of it well i will say though melodically doesn't do much for me
01:05:47 --> 01:06:11 oh you know what i can understand that i can understand that i think for me this song sounds like something out of ddr so i'm okay with it right i suck at ddr i'll be so real like we oh my gosh me too i just tried to play it a few days ago and i was awful you know i commend you for doing it because like i know from years in the past i suck as i tell people all the time i'm picking the easiest setting and even still i'm like you're like left yeah yeah
01:06:12 --> 01:06:32 right yeah like you're gonna try to kind of count myself in the game doesn't want to be counted okay it wants to be felt i don't feel it um but yeah it does fit that whole like you know follow the arrows the arrows tell me what to do you know the random like amorphous you know there are now versions with arms what there's now versions with with camp like sensors so now you have to do arms too
01:06:33 --> 01:06:34 Oh, no!
01:06:34 --> 01:06:35 Isn't that crazy?
01:06:35 --> 01:06:37 Yeah, we were watching someone do it.
01:06:37 --> 01:06:38 I was like, are you kidding me?
01:06:38 --> 01:06:39 That's scary.
01:06:39 --> 01:06:40 I mean, shout out to y'all.
01:06:40 --> 01:06:43 I mean, I think, were you and I sitting together?
01:06:43 --> 01:06:43 No.
01:06:44 --> 01:06:48 I was somewhere in the distance, some guy at an arcade playing it.
01:06:48 --> 01:06:49 Was it you?
01:06:49 --> 01:06:49 Yeah.
01:06:50 --> 01:06:50 I don't think so.
01:06:51 --> 01:06:54 Okay, I was sitting there and a guy was like, swinging his arm, swinging his arm.
01:06:54 --> 01:06:55 And like he was filming himself.
01:06:55 --> 01:06:56 So I think I know what you're talking about.
01:06:57 --> 01:06:58 So yeah, shout out to y'all.
01:06:58 --> 01:07:00 There's like a little dance pad too.
01:07:00 --> 01:07:02 This song would go off from the dance pad.
01:07:02 --> 01:07:03 You know?
01:07:04 --> 01:07:06 But it's like a glidey type of thing.
01:07:06 --> 01:07:07 I can't do that one.
01:07:07 --> 01:07:09 But yeah, I think this one does what it needs to do.
01:07:09 --> 01:07:10 It does look like a video game for me.
01:07:10 --> 01:07:11 So I'm like, okay with it.
01:07:11 --> 01:07:13 Melodically, I get what you're saying.
01:07:13 --> 01:07:15 Vocally though, I will say she is a little bit more open.
01:07:15 --> 01:07:16 So I appreciate that.
01:07:17 --> 01:07:19 But yeah, I think it's cool.
01:07:19 --> 01:07:19 It's cool.
01:07:20 --> 01:07:30 You know, for what it is, I do think the video is freaking hysterical because they found every Windows XP background or Windows Vista, whatever that weird like... What era would this be?
01:07:30 --> 01:07:32 Screen savers with the pipes and shit.
01:07:33 --> 01:07:35 They said chroma key that girl right now.
01:07:35 --> 01:07:37 So she's sitting there, you know, background.
01:07:37 --> 01:07:40 Alexa, big light red, you know?
01:07:40 --> 01:07:42 Like, she's, like, here.
01:07:42 --> 01:07:43 And my Alexa did not listen to me.
01:07:43 --> 01:07:45 Alexa, big light red.
01:07:45 --> 01:07:47 You know, she's, like, different colors.
01:07:47 --> 01:07:48 It's not, bam!
01:07:50 --> 01:07:53 I think it's very interesting that the whole thing changes, like, different backgrounds, like, windows, you know?
01:07:53 --> 01:07:53 Yeah.
01:07:54 --> 01:07:54 So shout out to her.
01:07:55 --> 01:07:59 We also, of course, get that little moment where she's eyeing herself and they almost kiss.
01:07:59 --> 01:08:00 Yeah.
01:08:00 --> 01:08:25 lesbian or narcissism narcissism or self-love self-love you know because when I'm taking when I have a DJ set in Ibiza I think about my wealth I think about how successful I'm going to be and it gets me so excited so shout out to spinning the records yeah I will say the final shot where she's like in the clouds like a goddess is so funny to me because it just comes out of nowhere
01:08:26 --> 01:08:54 no no she's reached nirvana okay with her with her light power yeah oh man she did perform it a few times as well um the choreo is okay you know you kind of get this walk walk hit walk walk it um and it kind of you know there's a lot of you know dynamics with the dancers and stuff but i feel like the other songs were choreographed better for sure yeah it's almost like a hey you're not doing anything right that's what this is yeah
01:08:55 --> 01:09:03 Look, so I appreciate that this song, like we would not have this album if it were not for this song and her randomly being asked to sing on it.
01:09:04 --> 01:09:04 To feature, right?
01:09:04 --> 01:09:06 But I'm going to be honest.
01:09:06 --> 01:09:08 One of my least favorites on this album.
01:09:08 --> 01:09:09 Wow.
01:09:09 --> 01:09:10 Also, don't blame you.
01:09:10 --> 01:09:13 So I'll give it a 7.5.
01:09:13 --> 01:09:13 Okay.
01:09:13 --> 01:09:14 I will give this one a 7.
01:09:14 --> 01:09:14 It's okay.
01:09:15 --> 01:09:15 Okay.
01:09:20 --> 01:09:20 Not bad.
01:09:20 --> 01:09:22 But shout out to the chart ranking, so good for her.
01:09:23 --> 01:09:23 Yeah.
01:09:23 --> 01:09:24 Yeah.
01:09:24 --> 01:09:29 All right, so we're kind of at the last track of the standard album.
01:09:29 --> 01:09:29 Right.
01:09:29 --> 01:09:36 This is It Won't Work Out, done by Danny Minogue, Ian Masterson, Terry Ronald, and Pete Boxta Martin.
01:09:36 --> 01:09:43 And the song originally started as a trance banger, which, as I mentioned earlier, was the original direction that the first few sessions were going for.
01:09:49 --> 01:09:52 But then they decide to turn it into a ballad for the final version.
01:09:53 --> 01:10:03 But then it actually was considered to be the next single from the album.
01:10:03 --> 01:10:06 So then a single mix by Ross Cullum was commissioned.
01:10:12 --> 01:10:15 And then an acoustic version was created as well.
01:10:15 --> 01:10:28 But unfortunately, the song, of course, due to all the label stuff, was not ultimately released as single, and fans would have to wait a few years to hear the single mix, which would later be released on this little compilation that they did.
01:10:29 --> 01:10:30 You know, this album...
01:10:31 --> 01:10:58 version boo it's not my favorite i'm gonna start with you wow i it's a shame that it's the pen ultimate track depending on like you know what you're listening to um but yeah the bite that was left behind the other by the other tracks has just dissipated there's nothing in this production that is like wow i feel like y'all did this on purpose um i feel like it was just we need a ballad hmm
01:10:59 --> 01:11:00 If you like the song, cool.
01:11:01 --> 01:11:02 I would like it.
01:11:02 --> 01:11:03 I'll tell you why in a second.
01:11:03 --> 01:11:05 But yeah, there's something missing in this.
01:11:05 --> 01:11:09 It feels like the song got lost while looking for a track list to perch upon.
01:11:09 --> 01:11:12 You know, like I feel like it was just like, well, I need somewhere to go.
01:11:12 --> 01:11:14 Oh, OK. And I don't like that.
01:11:15 --> 01:11:20 And I'm thinking to myself, is it because like we always need like a ballad or like some emotional song at the end of a pop album?
01:11:20 --> 01:11:24 And like, I hate that that has become the case or like that has been the case for so many years.
01:11:25 --> 01:11:26 But I guess that's what it's kind of fulfilling.
01:11:27 --> 01:11:28 Danny sounds good, though.
01:11:29 --> 01:11:35 So for much, much poop as I'm saying, much tomatoes as I'm slinging, her voice here sounds the most pure.
01:11:35 --> 01:11:42 Like there's no robot, just a woman doing the hard work of breaking up with her partner, with her vocals.
01:11:42 --> 01:11:49 Between moments of guitar here and there, there are some digital elements that do kind of, I guess, bring that thread of what we've been listening to.
01:11:50 --> 01:11:50 Yeah.
01:11:50 --> 01:11:54 And, but there's nothing that really reconnects this track to the former half of the album.
01:11:54 --> 01:11:58 The single mix, however, is powerful.
01:11:59 --> 01:12:14 powerful yeah powerful but it doesn't feel like it fits exactly on this album it's like a little bit of an outlier sonically but i would say in terms of like effort way better and it and it's a shame because an instrumentation can bring a perfectly good vocal performance down
01:12:15 --> 01:12:17 To where I'm just like not really feeling it.
01:12:17 --> 01:12:18 And like, do I want to listen to this?
01:12:18 --> 01:12:20 I wanted to listen to the single mix.
01:12:20 --> 01:12:21 But that's not what we got.
01:12:21 --> 01:12:22 So, you know.
01:12:22 --> 01:12:23 Yeah.
01:12:23 --> 01:12:23 Yeah.
01:12:24 --> 01:12:24 Yeah.
01:12:24 --> 01:12:25 The single mix.
01:12:25 --> 01:12:26 Yeah, I'll just talk about that first.
01:12:26 --> 01:12:27 Since you just mentioned it.
01:12:27 --> 01:12:28 Is amazing.
01:12:29 --> 01:12:29 Like genuinely.
01:12:29 --> 01:12:31 Like I think the first time I heard it.
01:12:32 --> 01:12:35 I texted our friend Edward, because he's a huge Danny fan.
01:12:35 --> 01:12:37 And I was like, oh my gosh, like, what the hell?
01:12:37 --> 01:12:41 This was, how was this not used?
01:12:41 --> 01:12:45 You know, and it's not even on the digital Neon Nights 20 track list.
01:12:45 --> 01:12:51 Like, it only really existed, like, digitally, I guess, at least on the Unleashed compilation, unfortunately.
01:12:51 --> 01:12:52 Wild.
01:12:53 --> 01:12:55 Yeah, I like the way that they did it.
01:12:55 --> 01:12:56 They sped it up a little bit.
01:12:56 --> 01:12:58 They did bring back more of the trance elements.
01:13:00 --> 01:13:01 And it's just, it's intense.
01:13:02 --> 01:13:26 yeah like the chorus feels intense it feels like you're in a storm and it's just all very dramatic and danny sounds so good like super strong there's a big belt i think the biggest one kind of i think the second chorus at the end she sounds really really good there i actually like the album version um i get what you mean that it doesn't really fit the album i think it was part of the oh let's put something a little bit more emotional at the end
01:13:27 --> 01:13:29 It definitely, I think, was that.
01:13:29 --> 01:13:39 However, I enjoy this kind of, like, dramatic 90s ballad with the Echling acoustic guitars and kind of the, I think the atmospheric kind of thing with the trance stuff.
01:13:39 --> 01:13:42 It's not so off sonically.
01:13:42 --> 01:13:44 It's not terribly off, yeah.
01:13:44 --> 01:13:46 But I think in terms of vibe, though, it is very...
01:13:47 --> 01:14:05 kind of an outlier for sure um so so yeah but i i will say i think the the production itself is interesting across all these different versions like there is the original like trans version that has since leaked yes that was that's a little crazy yeah it's a little much
01:14:06 --> 01:14:13 So them kind of taking the inspiration from that, I think the way the song's kind of second half is in the album version.
01:14:14 --> 01:14:14 Yeah.
01:14:14 --> 01:14:16 You know, there's kind of these big bassy hits.
01:14:16 --> 01:14:18 It gets very vibey and electronic and stuff.
01:14:18 --> 01:14:19 So I don't mind that.
01:14:20 --> 01:14:24 Yeah, the single version needs to be replaced.
01:14:24 --> 01:14:25 It should just replace it everywhere.
01:14:26 --> 01:14:28 Yeah, yeah.
01:14:28 --> 01:14:32 I think maybe because of the single version, it was just so dynamic.
01:14:32 --> 01:14:33 I'm a little bit like,
01:14:34 --> 01:14:47 With the album version The album version is okay Like Danny does a good job vocally So that's what saves it for me Yeah Yeah Okay so for the album version I'll give it an 8 But if it was the single version It would be a 10 Alright so the album version I'll give it
01:14:48 --> 01:14:49 I'll be fair.
01:14:49 --> 01:14:50 I like her vocal.
01:14:50 --> 01:14:51 I'll give it an 8.
01:14:51 --> 01:14:52 For the single version, I'll do a 9.5.
01:14:52 --> 01:14:54 Because again, they just threw this on here.
01:14:54 --> 01:14:55 Like, don't do that.
01:14:55 --> 01:14:56 Do better.
01:14:56 --> 01:14:58 Fine, fine.
01:14:59 --> 01:14:59 Okay.
01:14:59 --> 01:15:02 So there is a hidden track on the album.
01:15:02 --> 01:15:03 A hidden track.
01:15:03 --> 01:15:06 And that is the Sebastian Krieg remix edit of Come and Get It.
01:15:07 --> 01:15:07 Yes.
01:15:07 --> 01:15:11 Which is done by Danny Minogue, Hannah Robinson, and Jean-Claude Addis.
01:15:12 --> 01:15:18 So the song was released as a single in Germany and mainland Europe in 2004.
01:15:18 --> 01:15:21 So for a long time, it was a collectible.
01:15:21 --> 01:15:24 Like fans had to figure out how to hear this song.
01:15:24 --> 01:15:27 They had to like figure out how to order it from Germany, you know?
01:15:27 --> 01:15:27 Uh-huh.
01:15:28 --> 01:15:30 But now, you know, everything's out there.
01:15:30 --> 01:15:32 A few different versions exist.
01:15:32 --> 01:15:33 A few remixes were made.
01:15:34 --> 01:15:40 I think also before the label had all its issues, there were plans to properly reissue the album.
01:15:40 --> 01:15:43 So I think this was also a single contender at that point as well.
01:15:44 --> 01:15:46 So yeah, what do you think of Come and Get It?
01:15:52 --> 01:15:56 You know, this one does read like a bonus track on an album, and it's not bad.
01:15:56 --> 01:15:59 It's a fun little track with a great tagline.
01:15:59 --> 01:16:02 I mean, this song is the one you get lost in while you're out at the club.
01:16:02 --> 01:16:03 Like, you know, you're dancing.
01:16:03 --> 01:16:06 You kind of just, if you're someone like me who closes her eyes, you kind of just really feel it.
01:16:07 --> 01:16:12 Because it's not like a super strong vocal moment.
01:16:12 --> 01:16:14 It's meant to be like...
01:16:15 --> 01:16:39 a long long haul a long dance moment a long under the influence mode if you will if you're kind of into it it's not you know i supposed to listen to the lyrics but i relate to this so much like this this saved my life i mean if it does save your life that's awesome i love that for you um but yeah like the one lyric that stood out to me the most was like temptation and overdrive i like that i don't know it just something about it sounds very like juicy delectable um
01:16:40 --> 01:16:44 But she delivers it in such a way where it feels like you're being seduced.
01:16:44 --> 01:16:48 You're slipping into it as opposed to it being thrown in your face.
01:16:49 --> 01:16:53 But yeah, for me, I think overall, the song feels like a cool down.
01:16:53 --> 01:16:55 You're still moving and grooving, but the workout has ended.
01:16:55 --> 01:16:56 You're done.
01:16:57 --> 01:16:59 So I do appreciate the coming down.
01:16:59 --> 01:17:01 Put your seatbelts on.
01:17:03 --> 01:17:05 Woo, you're in our destination.
01:17:08 --> 01:17:14 Yeah, I could totally see this actually being like the final single from the album as a wrap-up.
01:17:14 --> 01:17:16 Because it is radio-friendly, for sure.
01:17:16 --> 01:17:20 It does lean more on the dance side, but there is something about it that still feels quite...
01:17:21 --> 01:17:25 I don't want to use the word safe, because I know that we kind of used that in a more negative connotation before.
01:17:25 --> 01:17:30 But I think in this case, it actually balances the kind of dance-ier kind of sound.
01:17:30 --> 01:17:32 Yeah, it's a cozy little track.
01:17:32 --> 01:17:33 Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:17:33 --> 01:17:38 I will say, though, this is one where I'm like, this kind of sounds like a Kylie song.
01:17:40 --> 01:17:44 And I think a lot of it is also because she's using kind of her head voice in it as well.
01:17:44 --> 01:17:46 And as we were saying earlier, Kylie does have a higher tone.
01:17:47 --> 01:17:49 So I can just imagine Kylie singing this.
01:17:50 --> 01:17:52 Ooh, okay, that's valid, yeah.
01:17:52 --> 01:17:53 So there is that.
01:17:53 --> 01:17:55 So sorry if that's an issue here.
01:17:57 --> 01:17:58 But I do like it.
01:17:58 --> 01:18:01 I like the hook of the, you know, if you want it.
01:18:02 --> 01:18:06 Yeah, you know, I feel like that as a concept kind of always works.
01:18:06 --> 01:18:10 Yeah, kind of dance pop songs, you know, it's like, oh, yeah, we only have tonight.
01:18:10 --> 01:18:11 You may never see me again.
01:18:12 --> 01:18:19 So if you want it, you know, you know, there are some strings at the end, which, you know, for a dance album, there haven't been many strings.
01:18:20 --> 01:18:20 No.
01:18:20 --> 01:18:20 Actually.
01:18:21 --> 01:18:22 So there are some strings here.
01:18:22 --> 01:18:24 You mean orchestral, not like guitars, y'all.
01:18:25 --> 01:18:25 Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:18:25 --> 01:18:26 Exactly.
01:18:27 --> 01:18:30 So I like it for being on the album, actually.
01:18:31 --> 01:18:32 I think it makes for a nice ending.
01:18:33 --> 01:18:33 Yeah.
01:18:33 --> 01:18:33 I think so, too.
01:18:33 --> 01:18:35 I think it makes for a good ending.
01:18:35 --> 01:18:38 It's definitely kind of like cleanse my palate after our friend.
01:18:39 --> 01:18:41 Okay, so what do you rate it?
01:18:41 --> 01:18:42 I'll give this one an 8.5.
01:18:43 --> 01:18:44 It's a good cool down.
01:18:44 --> 01:18:44 Okay.
01:18:44 --> 01:18:46 I will go 9.
01:18:46 --> 01:18:48 Oh, my goodness.
01:18:48 --> 01:18:48 Oh.
01:18:49 --> 01:18:50 What an album.
01:18:50 --> 01:18:55 Honestly, I kind of, I don't regret not listening to Danny up until now.
01:18:55 --> 01:18:58 Because we've gotten really deep into Kylie's stuff.
01:18:58 --> 01:18:59 So now I'm like, okay.
01:19:00 --> 01:19:01 Okay, girl.
01:19:02 --> 01:19:03 But yeah, so we're going to move on to our last segment.
01:19:04 --> 01:19:06 Before we get into the whole overall views.
01:19:06 --> 01:19:07 It's called Cut or Keep.
01:19:07 --> 01:19:09 You have to keep one song, cut one song.
01:19:09 --> 01:19:09 That's it.
01:19:09 --> 01:19:11 You have to choose.
01:19:11 --> 01:19:12 You do have like a backup if you want.
01:19:12 --> 01:19:13 So leave me in the comments.
01:19:13 --> 01:19:15 Let us know what song you would cut or keep.
01:19:15 --> 01:19:15 Okay.
01:19:15 --> 01:19:22 Yes, and of course, as Chantel mentioned earlier, we have a lot of listeners that have been wanting us to do this album.
01:19:22 --> 01:19:24 So they've given us some of their thoughts as well.
01:19:25 --> 01:19:31 So if we had to cut a song off this album, what would it be and why?
01:19:31 --> 01:19:34 So Wyatt, one of our listeners, he would say...
01:19:35 --> 01:19:36 Who do you love now?
01:19:36 --> 01:19:41 He says, As much of a fan favorite as it is, it's a real weak spot on the album.
01:19:41 --> 01:19:46 Everything else is so dynamic and innovative, it sounds generic by comparison.
01:19:46 --> 01:19:52 And then, of course, we have Ren, the one who requested this episode.
01:19:53 --> 01:19:54 They would cut mighty fine.
01:19:55 --> 01:19:57 It's repetitive and frankly annoying.
01:19:57 --> 01:19:59 A definite skip.
01:19:59 --> 01:20:01 Oh, wow.
01:20:02 --> 01:20:03 You are so lucky.
01:20:03 --> 01:20:09 I'm such an amiable person and don't take people's criticism of my faves personally.
01:20:09 --> 01:20:09 I'm joking.
01:20:09 --> 01:20:11 That's literally our tagline out of our show.
01:20:11 --> 01:20:11 I can't get mad.
01:20:12 --> 01:20:12 Exactly.
01:20:13 --> 01:20:14 Chris, what's wrong with you cut?
01:20:15 --> 01:20:15 Ooh.
01:20:16 --> 01:20:16 You know,
01:20:18 --> 01:20:26 I will say, if I just listen to it as a full project, Who Do You Love Now does actually stand out in a not amazing way.
01:20:26 --> 01:20:28 Because I feel like it's so Euro pop.
01:20:29 --> 01:20:29 Yeah.
01:20:29 --> 01:20:30 You know?
01:20:31 --> 01:20:32 I feel like I could live without it.
01:20:33 --> 01:20:35 So I actually get that as a choice.
01:20:36 --> 01:20:39 But if I were to choose something else, I'd probably choose Mystified.
01:20:39 --> 01:20:40 Again, it's just one I just never remember.
01:20:41 --> 01:20:45 Yeah, I sung every single one back to you except that one and the one I'm about to choose right now.
01:20:45 --> 01:20:47 And I would say, oh, it's so tough.
01:20:48 --> 01:20:50 Only because it feels thrown on.
01:20:50 --> 01:20:53 And there are other B-sides that really kind of give me some oomph.
01:20:53 --> 01:20:54 It won't work out.
01:20:54 --> 01:20:55 I love the sentiment.
01:20:55 --> 01:20:58 I think it has potential to be a different song on a different album.
01:20:58 --> 01:20:59 This is not the one for me.
01:20:59 --> 01:21:01 It could be a single on its own.
01:21:01 --> 01:21:02 Goodbye.
01:21:02 --> 01:21:02 You're not bad.
01:21:03 --> 01:21:06 But just for me, it kind of just makes me, you know, I'm not going to explain myself anymore.
01:21:06 --> 01:21:08 Yeah, you don't like ballads, apparently.
01:21:08 --> 01:21:10 I love ballads.
01:21:10 --> 01:21:11 I'm kidding, kidding.
01:21:13 --> 01:21:15 Well, one of our listeners, or our friend, Edward,
01:21:16 --> 01:21:21 He very much disagrees with you because it won't work out as one of his favorites and would be a key.
01:21:21 --> 01:21:23 He's going to have words for me.
01:21:24 --> 01:21:27 He also said Vibon about our vibrators up there.
01:21:27 --> 01:21:31 And also For the Record as well.
01:21:31 --> 01:21:38 And then Darius, another listener of ours, he listed Push, A Piece of Time, and Mighty Fine as some of his favorites.
01:21:38 --> 01:21:43 And he said Push should have been made at least an airplay single here in the United States.
01:21:43 --> 01:21:44 You know what, Darius?
01:21:44 --> 01:21:45 You and I have very similar tastes.
01:21:45 --> 01:21:47 And also, happy belated birthday.
01:21:48 --> 01:21:48 Hey.
01:21:48 --> 01:21:50 You have been with us from the beginning.
01:21:50 --> 01:21:50 So, listen.
01:21:50 --> 01:21:52 You and I, we got similar tastes.
01:21:52 --> 01:21:53 I agree.
01:21:53 --> 01:21:54 That would have been really interesting.
01:21:54 --> 01:21:59 Especially with the Bonifa, you know, recollection in a lot of people's heads.
01:21:59 --> 01:22:00 Oh, honey.
01:22:00 --> 01:22:01 We'll talk on the live.
01:22:01 --> 01:22:02 We'll talk on the live.
01:22:03 --> 01:22:09 Also, we have Wyatt who said, I would keep on the loop because it is one of the best modern interpretations of disco ever.
01:22:10 --> 01:22:13 Authenticity remission of acts like Sylvester.
01:22:13 --> 01:22:36 eight yeah we have wren who kept chris's cut mystified because it's so catchy it could have been a single also loves come and get it and nervous oh but we weren't we're not there yet b-size is for the patreon exclusive okay i love that we have such a variety of choices that just shows how good this album is
01:22:36 --> 01:22:40 Yes, and I love our CCTV crew because a lot of us are like, I like this one, but I don't like this one.
01:22:40 --> 01:22:42 And honestly, Ed's going to have some words for me.
01:22:43 --> 01:22:46 He did like the Kylie album too.
01:22:48 --> 01:22:48 Yes.
01:22:48 --> 01:22:51 Okay, so I will choose A Piece of Time.
01:22:51 --> 01:22:52 I love that one.
01:22:52 --> 01:22:55 That one is one I just keep going back to just because I want to hear it.
01:22:56 --> 01:22:57 Oh, no.
01:22:57 --> 01:22:58 Okay, hang on.
01:22:58 --> 01:22:58 Wait.
01:22:58 --> 01:22:59 Okay.
01:22:59 --> 01:23:00 If I were to keep one.
01:23:00 --> 01:23:01 Oof.
01:23:02 --> 01:23:03 Okay, we'll keep For the Record.
01:23:04 --> 01:23:04 Okay.
01:23:04 --> 01:23:05 Okay.
01:23:05 --> 01:23:05 Okay.
01:23:06 --> 01:23:07 I like it.
01:23:07 --> 01:23:08 It's like here.
01:23:08 --> 01:23:08 Yes.
01:23:09 --> 01:23:12 Okay, so overall thoughts and final rating for this album.
01:23:12 --> 01:23:14 So let's start with some of our listeners.
01:23:14 --> 01:23:17 So Edward said the album was ahead of its time.
01:23:17 --> 01:23:23 She was revisiting the 80s electro sound that had a resurgence later on in the late 2000s.
01:23:23 --> 01:23:24 Yes.
01:23:24 --> 01:23:26 And Darius just said, Neon Nights is that girl.
01:23:28 --> 01:23:30 Come on, Darian.
01:23:30 --> 01:23:31 It's so true.
01:23:31 --> 01:23:31 Yes.
01:23:32 --> 01:23:33 And Ren said, it's a strong body of work.
01:23:34 --> 01:23:37 A couple of middle tracks are a bit fillery, but all in all, it's solid.
01:23:37 --> 01:23:44 So I think for her to have done this without being like, I'm trying to be so different, unlike my sister.
01:23:44 --> 01:23:48 Like, you can still do the dance stuff, but just figure out what side of the dance you're trying to do.
01:23:48 --> 01:23:49 Are you doing the funky?
01:23:49 --> 01:23:50 Are you doing the more groovy side?
01:23:50 --> 01:23:52 Are you doing the more trance stuff?
01:23:52 --> 01:23:55 There's so much in dance that can be explored.
01:23:55 --> 01:23:55 And she did it.
01:23:55 --> 01:23:56 I think she did a really good job.
01:23:56 --> 01:23:58 I like this album a lot more than I was expecting.
01:23:59 --> 01:24:02 I could hear current artists covering and doing these songs.
01:24:02 --> 01:24:03 I think it's solid art.
01:24:04 --> 01:24:05 For sure.
01:24:05 --> 01:24:07 One of my favorites we've listened to so far this year, I would say.
01:24:07 --> 01:24:10 But then we also have Flo coming out and some other albums.
01:24:10 --> 01:24:13 But yeah, I think so far, this is probably one of my faves that we've listened to.
01:24:14 --> 01:24:14 Yeah.
01:24:14 --> 01:24:15 Oh my gosh.
01:24:15 --> 01:24:15 Yeah.
01:24:17 --> 01:24:20 My gosh, it reminds me of Rachel Stevens' album was like surprisingly really good.
01:24:20 --> 01:24:21 Ooh.
01:24:21 --> 01:24:21 Yeah.
01:24:22 --> 01:24:25 When we recovered it, we covered it, reviewed it.
01:24:25 --> 01:24:25 I was like, oh, wait.
01:24:25 --> 01:24:26 Hang on.
01:24:26 --> 01:24:27 This is actually really good.
01:24:27 --> 01:24:27 So, yeah.
01:24:28 --> 01:24:28 That was from last year, though.
01:24:28 --> 01:24:30 But this year, I think Danny's taking it.
01:24:30 --> 01:24:30 Nice.
01:24:31 --> 01:24:31 Nice.
01:24:31 --> 01:24:32 Yeah, I'm super impressed.
01:24:32 --> 01:24:35 Like, yes, I apologize again to Danny.
01:24:35 --> 01:24:37 It took me a while to dive in.
01:24:38 --> 01:24:42 But, you know, because I did know the three kind of main singles and I was like, yeah, these are fun.
01:24:42 --> 01:24:45 But for some reason, just never kind of went any further.
01:24:45 --> 01:24:51 So thank you to the CCTV crew for finally getting us in here because I literally saved like every single song.
01:24:51 --> 01:24:52 Oh, shoot.
01:24:52 --> 01:24:53 I was like, oh, yeah, this one's good.
01:24:53 --> 01:24:54 This one's good.
01:24:54 --> 01:24:58 Because, yeah, it is right on my lane, right?
01:24:58 --> 01:24:58 Like, it makes sense.
01:24:58 --> 01:25:01 It's like this is so what I was into when I was like 12 and 13.
01:25:01 --> 01:25:01 So cute.
01:25:05 --> 01:25:06 And it's a strong album.
01:25:06 --> 01:25:08 Like, I'm glad it's gotten so much love.
01:25:09 --> 01:25:13 It's unfortunate that the campaign didn't get to live its full life.
01:25:13 --> 01:25:13 Oh, yeah.
01:25:13 --> 01:25:17 You know, and it's unfortunate that she hasn't really done much since then.
01:25:17 --> 01:25:18 I think there's one more album after this.
01:25:18 --> 01:25:22 But again, it was like, you know, a lot of businessy things.
01:25:22 --> 01:25:25 And she hasn't really done much musically, you know, since then.
01:25:25 --> 01:25:28 So bring her back for a Mighty Hoopla headline set.
01:25:30 --> 01:25:55 oh my god right wow mag drop that's it what's your score man that's crazy wow hello i wouldn't i'll be on barricade all day yes everybody else everybody else yeah i really like this album i'll give it a nine oh okay the scores i gave were quite high oh is it nine worthy
01:25:56 --> 01:25:56 Yeah, I like this album.
