[00:00:00] The group was getting bigger and bigger and the momentum was not stopping.
[00:00:07] So the group continued to grow with its huge list of sponsorship deals, which now include
[00:00:12] Padbury and Pepsi, which is huge.
[00:00:15] I don't know about Cadbury, but I know about Pepsi.
[00:00:18] Cadbury is huge.
[00:00:19] Is that the chocolate?
[00:00:21] Yeah.
[00:00:22] Oh, okay.
[00:00:23] Then go off every Easter.
[00:00:25] I see those commercials.
[00:00:26] Oh, in March 2001. The places that you never can before they can now. The song was written by the members of the group along longtime collaborator Simon Ellis. In addition to hitting number one, the song became one of the biggest value fingers in the UK that year, and also received a Brit award for the best British single in 2002. Mm-hmm. Yeah.
[00:01:41] I love Don't Stop Moving.
[00:01:43] I think I would say it's my favorite
[00:01:45] S Club track overall.
[00:01:47] Oh, yeah. understand, you know, or you can just be cool kids like you and I were and just like the song, you know, all because it's good. But I get it like parents don't want to have their kids listening to some like, some raunchy mess like they have now. But yeah, I think Bradley leading the song is a good good choice only because Joe is so vocally prominent that it's good to have a different voice where it's like, who was that? You know, so kind of, you know,
[00:04:04] assistant. But yes, speaking of following the S Club party tour that started in May 2001, the group quickly flew to the US to film their third series, Hollywood
[00:04:10] seven. So most notably, they made sure to include a nod to the real life
[00:04:15] relationship that was brewing between members, Hannah and Paul, who had begun
[00:04:20] dating that year. So surprisingly, Paul would actually later reveal many years
[00:04:25] later that the relationship had actually And of course, in their interview and stuff,
[00:05:41] they were like, yeah, like our chemistry
[00:05:42] has just been like growing like this,
[00:05:44] these past few years or whatever.
[00:05:45] So it does, but let us know in the comments if you want us to do a Saturdays album review Oh my gosh, hot 101 Yes, and if you want priority be sure to join us on patreon because our producers and our CCTV crew on there get top choice
[00:07:04] And they actually kind of just help us decide what's very pussycat dolls. Like what Robin Anton was trying to do? Like, you know, it's like S-clabs, clearly getting older. We got to keep the brand going. So let's create an offshoot. You know, let's get the juniors going. Not this one. And actually, junior, the juniors actually had kind of a really
[00:08:22] interesting career as well.
[00:08:23] So definitely they have some decent material.
[00:08:26] Look at it.
[00:08:27] He's trying to make you guys say, yes, drop it in the UK albums chart and featured the group exploring and even more mature sound compared to the last album. So they are growing up for sure. Yeah. Yeah. So I guess with Have You Ever, what do you think of that or we get into the album? I love a song. I love a song. I don't know. Why do I know this song? I'm not saying it's like always because maybe it's because of the show. But I remember just liking it. It's
[00:09:43] just a good song. I don't. I know what? Yeah. That's very, very similar, I would say. Yeah. It is. And again, Jo sounds great. And she most really well on this one, I would say. But yeah, I think it's just hard to compare. Or I guess hard not to compare. Hard not to.
[00:11:00] Yes, I agree.
[00:11:01] Never had a dream come true, but it is good.
[00:11:03] And it does stand on its own as a good hot ballot, I would say.
[00:11:06] I get what you for you, Hannah. As well. Yeah. So I appreciate this album. I think it's pretty strong. What do you think? You know, it has some interesting tracks on it. And I was thinking, Oh God, sunshine. Oh Lord. Like, Oh, why is it the title?
[00:12:21] But blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
[00:12:23] And their defense is just a title of the album.
[00:12:25] Like the album didn't sound like Barkley and Bright.
[00:13:23] So I would say this one's getting into, you know, 16. Yeah. Or maybe maybe 16 to 18. Maybe. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:13:27] So high school, but we're so high school.
[00:13:29] We're growing. We're growing. Yes.
[00:13:32] So in January 2002, the group
[00:13:35] embarks on their second arena tour, the Carnival Tour.
[00:13:39] And then they quickly released their third single from the album,
[00:13:42] the theme song for Hollywood 7, you.
[00:13:44] And it hit number two in the UK singles chart.
[00:13:47] And the group, you know I'm saying like yeah at this point playing it safe just feels like you're being lazy It doesn't feel like all this makes sense. No, it doesn't
[00:15:00] You just don't want to try to write a better song and possibly risk it not being good
[00:15:03] But why was why write a song that's not good? I
[00:15:07] Think you know, bring it all back into an a million and all this stuff at the time, I would have been like, my fandom would have been back to, you know, would have gone down a bit. So that's very interesting, right? Because then there might be the opposite of where there are fans who are like, oh, I miss like the kind of
[00:16:20] like cheesy Motown thing that they were doing.
[00:16:22] So yeah, it is interesting line to toe for sure.
[00:16:27] But Motown isn't just cheesy. They feel like street jazz. A lot of their moves were like that. It wasn't like these like abstracty kind of, they were really engaging.
[00:17:42] Yeah.
[00:17:42] I was watching and I was like, holy crap, this is really good.
[00:17:45] Yeah.
[00:17:45] And then they all got their little solo moments with the accent. They filmed in Barcelona. Paul had his final performance at the time with the group at party at the palace, an iconic concert which was part? After a while, it's like, how many more years it is? Oh, I don't blame him. Life is too long for that. Oh, I don't remember. Interesting. No, life is too short for that. Nah. That's way too long to suffer through the day.
[00:20:23] The week, the months and years about bull crap. I'm jumping ahead a bit. I feel like the money situation is crazy. Back in the day was really rough. From the east to the west, there's so many artists complaining about lack of pay and such. And I can only imagine how hard his life was afterwards. Because you started out with this one brand.
[00:21:40] And back then, typecasting was so bad.
[00:21:42] I feel like it was worse than it is.
[00:21:44] That people are still ignorant.
[00:21:46] But I feel like back then, I was like kitten saying, you know, like dancing in the street. And the core saying like a Beatles cover, you know, like it was like, and then now you have S Club getting to sing their own song. So that was cool opportunity for them. And he will doodle in November 2002 as cover released their first single without Paul, the dance track, and the song reached number five on the UK singles
[00:23:02] chart and was quickly followed by the release of the Alan Seeing Double, which because I will say a live is actually a decent track. It's not the best track, but yeah, it's a natural next step part two from Don't Stop Moving. Like it has that kind of more mature disco kind of thing going for it. Mature disco. I will say it doesn't really have much that Don't Stop Moving doesn't have.
[00:24:20] Like you get that vocoder again, you know,
[00:24:23] like it's a club video again.
[00:24:26] Yeah, like it's just.
[00:24:27] It's a derivative. There's so many things happening. Like why are we not tapping into this? I mean, I would say with the album that they did, to gone more sonic risk, I would guess from business perspective, you know, Paul left. So they were already scared, you know, any fans abandoned them. So they were like, let's be super safe with the first single from the new album.
[00:25:40] That would probably be my guess with the logic of it.
[00:25:42] But I agree with you.
[00:25:43] Yeah. Yeah.
[00:25:44] But the song is not that.
[00:25:46] I'll say that was not that.
[00:25:47] Right. Right.
[00:25:48] What do you think as an album, like the song themselves, it's actually pretty good. Like it's too bad that it didn't do very well. I actually don't remember it not doing well like that at the time. I think there are decent standouts like who do you think you are like into deep like bittersweet.
[00:27:02] They did also promote that song millions from the group, the members were seeing very little of that. And following the release of the mildly successful film, the group embarks on their S Club United tour alongside the S Club? Yeah. You know, um, and, uh, yeah, I don't, I don't wish that movie upon anyone in terms of like, if you were an actor, so like here's a movie opportunity. I don't wish that upon anyone because like the whole goofy, like we got cloned thing. It's just, uh, you there, if
[00:29:43] it was all, they all will take you seriously, especially with the artists that were under the license deals. So that's where you're not signed directly to a label, right? You're signed to a company that then signs the label kind of on your behalf. That know? Oh, he is so tacky. Oh my God. Oh, honey. Oh my God. Well, in May 2003, the group released their final single at the time, the double A side of Sing Double, album track, Love and Gone Away for You,
[00:32:20] and the new track, Say Goodbye, which had a music video featuring the group
[00:32:25] reflecting on old footage while packing up a house. I'm going to wait for you. You know, when it's true. Love ain't gonna wait for you. The single hit number two in the UK and the greatest hits album Best. The greatest hits of F-Cuff 7 also hit number two in the UK after its release in June.
[00:33:40] Um, these songs are okay.
[00:33:42] I guess Love ain't gonna wait for you as again a very safe choice from this album. layering, for Hannah and Tina's lines are hilarious. Like you can just hear the struggle as they're trying to deliver these lines because they're like long notes as well. In a year. Is that a ballacle? Yeah. Like this is a struggle.
[00:35:01] But I will say, I do like the music video for Say goodbye.
[00:35:04] I think it's a good kind of split video
[00:35:07] with them kind of reminiscing on everything.
