Before 2015, new albums in the U.S. usually dropped on Tuesdays (other countries had different days).
Everything changed because of Beyoncé.
Here’s what happened:
🎵 In December 2013, she surprise-released her self-titled album on a Friday with zero promotion.
🎵 It was a massive success and broke iTunes records.
The music industry realized:
🎵A single global release day would reduce piracy
🎵It would make marketing simpler worldwide
🎵Fans everywhere could get music at the same time
So in 2015, the IFPI officially made Friday the global release day! Now called “New Music Friday.”
Basically… Beyoncé didn’t just drop an album 💿, she literally changed the calendar of the music industry 😄
